Help Registering a Hanoverian
Back in the saddle - The mare doesn’t have to be inspected prior to breeding, but would have to be presented with the foal in order for the foal to get full papers…from most of the registries. The risk you run with not having her approved first, is if something happens to her during/after foaling and she can’t be presented, then the foal is stuck with a COP.
Yep…I’ll either get her inspected or won’t breed to a non han stallion next year. lol It all depends on if the inspection is 10 minutes away or 80 miles and if she’s preggers (with a hann) at the time. Won’t risk taking her off the farm for long trips or if she’s preggers. Hopefully the inspectors will agree to do a private inspection here if I won’t take her anywhere. The inspection in this area will either be 10 minutes from the house or 70 miles. Waiting on the schedule.

A MSB Hanoverian mare would be considered erkend with the KPWN-NA. If you breed her to a KWPN or KWPN-NA approved stallion, you do not need to have her inspected and her foal would get Foalbook papers. Might give you some more options

Thanks, Good to know.

normally taking a mare to an inspection wouldn’t be a big deal. But with what we’ve been through with her sickness last year and founder, we do what we can not to upset rubi’s apple cart. lol

I have my mare’s papers, so that is no problem.
Note that the requirements were for the TB mare owner to provide an official 5-generation PEDIGREE; this requirement is not met by the Jockey Club papers which have only the sire, dam and damsire.

Fortunately, this is easy to rectify because www.equineline.com is the official source of Jockey Club pedigrees and it is now a free service. You’ll need to have this printout in addition to the papers.

If the stallion is fully approved by the German Hano. verband, you’ve got options with several registries that are easier to get a TB in. You’ll still need to get your mare inspected and will likely have to pay an outside stallion fee, but so many registries will accept any fully licensed, performance tested stallion (with a fee):

The ones that come to mind are GOV and Old-NA (Oldenburg registries), RPSI, BWP and sBs (Belgian registries) and of course the American registries. I’d look around and see which is having the most convenient approval and get with them about having your mare inspected as a backup option.

Thanks! I had not looked at her papers in years, I just assumed they would have what was needed!

When you look at the various registries for your mare, if your plan is to breed her again, consider the stallions. It is less expensive for you if you don’t have to pay a foreign stallion fee, so go with the registry that has the most stallions you like. Oldenburg/NA charges a $300 foreign stallion fee, plus you have to get DNA, so for me, that one was a no go for a mare of mine.
