Help walk me through breed registration

I recently acquired a 9yo mare out of a holsteiner stallion and an unregistered mare. She isn’t registered, but I would like to get her Registered somewhere, even if I can’t with holsteiner. I have her breeding papers. Can I get her registered with holsteiner? I figured if anyone should know it would be the breeding forum

I don’t know much about AHHA, but their website is pretty good:
https://www.holsteiner.com/approvals

I don’t know of any European WB-registry that will give full papers to anything that isn’t
A: By a stallion that’s approved for breeding with that registry (not just registered in that association)
B: Out of a registered mare who’s been approved for breeding in that registry

Sometimes they will issue a COP with a DNA test, but that’s registry-specific, and I’m not sure they’ll do that if the mare isn’t registered. What do you mean, you have the breeding papers? Is it from the SO stating Mr Hunky covered mare xxx on date? Was Mr Hunky approved for breeding with AHHA or any other association? If so, that might get you a COP…

There are many good reasons to register a horse, but I’m not sure how many of them will apply to a 9yo. With an unregistered dam, your mare likely won’t be accepted into the mare books for WB registrations, if you were interested in breeding her someday. Even ISR requires mares to have proof of parentage. Your one option there would be the American Warmblood Registry, who apparently does accept non-registered mares, on condition of a performance test [TABLE=“border: 1, cellpadding: 7, cellspacing: 0”]
[TR]
[TD] "]Mares without papers must always be performance tested. If the horse has been a brood mare exclusively, she will be required to complete the in-hand and at-liberty inspection. The test is conducted according to the AWR Breeding Stock Inspection Guidelines"

You don’t ride the papers, and a 9yo isn’t likely to get branded with any association nor be eligible for their awards program. However, registered horses are anecdotally less likely to end up in a Very Bad Place than their unregistered counterparts.

So, if you just want some sort of registration paperwork for that purpose, you can always go with the American Warmblood Society & Sporthorse Registry (https://awssr.org/registry/eligibility/)
– “For the AWSSR, all horses are evaluated on their own qualities and performance records. As a performance registry, AWSSR does not hold any bloodline or breed restrictions. A horse or pony can be of any breed or combination, without restriction, as long as the horse shows the ability or potential for one of the recognized sporthorse disciplines. A grade horse or one without pedigree registration is also eligible. The registration provided is for the lifetime of the horse.” --from their website

Hope that helps, and maybe a poster with knowledge of different options will chime in.
Congrats on your new mare!

BTW… horses are ‘by’ stallions ‘out of’ mares

Sounds like maybe you want to breed this mare? When you say ‘breeding papers’ what exactly are you meaning? Your mare’s pedigree or ??

She is out of Cabaret, and he is/was approved. So it’s just the mare that wasn’t registered and approved. I have the breeding contract, papers stating that they bought his cooled and that it went to the mare she is out of.

Its mainly for my own worry that I want to get her registered somewhere. If anything was to happen to me, a registered warmblood will fare much better.
I also am considering breeding, but the foal would stay with me, so not much concern there.
thank you for your help!

Sorry I am not in the breeding world at all.
I want to do it so if anything were to happen to me, she would fare better. I have seen what happens to unregistered horses. Not so good

I may breed her later. If so, it’s going to be several years down the line and I would keep the foal. She is very well conformed and looks a lot like her father
