Help with a pedigree full of TBs I do not know?

This filly is stacked with horses I do not know and that is leaving me feeling quite lost. With so many gurus on the COTH, I am hoping some of you might weigh in to give me an idea of what this youngster might mature into.

Just wondering if her pedigree supports the idea that she would (in theory) be good for sport and if she might be a candidate for potential breeding in the future (if she proves herself).

Thank you in advance!

I know of someone who snaps up Super Saver offspring whenever possible for great dispositions.

Thank you!
That checks out. She has a kind eye but is sensitive like most young fillies off the track. It is clear however, that she has a heart of gold.

She has a lovely and quite royal pedigree for racing. Wow, l am impressed. Dunno if this will mean anything for a sport career, but it would be fun to try. Should be athletic!

Thank you! That is good to hear. Good breeding is an important start for any horse. She shows a great deal of promise, but we are giving her until the spring to finish growing up. She will tell us a lot about herself by then.

I’m not in Thoroughbreds anymore, but the best ones that I encountered (Sport) always seemed to have Halo or Roberto (both Hail to Reason) in them. And the Halo/Ballade cross was an especially good one, Saint Ballado was an exceptionally good stallion.

Curious situation with this filly; people took a pretty big financial loss on her. What happened?

Runhappy has a good temperament as an individual. He has a typical racehorse look to him, but certainly has a lot of sporty type horses behind him. Before his sire Super Saver was sent to Turkey, he had a moment as a freshman sire because his foals were just so good looking.

Scat Daddy we lost too soon. He was a phenomenal sire of racehorses, but from a sport perspective, he was one of those interesting horses whose offspring are always better looking than himself. Not that he was bad looking, just more racey than sporty. But his offspring tend to be bigger and more uphill than he was.

You can make a case for most TBs having good sport lines. This mare’s are certainly good, too.

Second this for Roberto horses. Bold and durable, though sometimes strong-willed and opinionated.

Did you know her? She certainly came from a famous program being bred by “Mattress Mack” who also owned her sire Runhappy. She is huge and her connections waited until she was 3 to run her. Even so, she makes the other horses she raced against (in her 1 start) look like ponies. That is her in the purple silks.

Although she came in 3rd in that race an injury at some point required her to be laid up. She is now happily ensconced in my barn and getting plenty of turnout. No big ambitions for her ATM just going to let her grow up and be a horse until next spring. Then we will see how she feels.

I have been out of the TB game, but like you have also loved seeing Halo and Roberto on pedigrees. She has a lot of older names that I respect for sport, but the newer horses I am unfamiliar with as I have been away from track life for a moment.

Thankfully she is very uphill. She does have a nice personality which I have come to understand is typical of her breeding.

She is a nifty filly and has “all the right moves.” I love hearing that her pedigree is strong, it shows in every line of her body and the intelligence of her face.

I don’t know her.

Mattress Mack bought her dam already in foal with your filly for $70k. I don’t know who facilitated the mating. Then she ended up running with different connections; no public sale. An injury makes sense because while she wasn’t a world beater, she showed enough ability in her one start not to quit on her for no reason.

Add me to the small party wondering what happened to her to make her available to us lowly non-racing peons. Good find, OP, because this mare is spectacular on paper especially for racing.

A slight tangent: Scat Daddy’s kids consistently catch my eye. I think most Americans would recognize him through his sons Justify and Mendelssohn… but how could you not love this horse? I don’t even like greys. This is Caravaggio:

But… of all Scat Daddy’s kids Lady Aurelia is my favorite:

Not at all surprising to read she is huge. SD was known for that, I think most people remember how Yuge Justify seemed in a field of colts. Plus Runhappy is not exactly small either, nor is he from small horses himself.

Thanks for the info! Interesting to know about her dam and the price point. I have been unable to hunt down much on her. Would love to know what they sold her for…

She looks a lot like the mare you posted. It is certainly hard to find much fault with either of the horses you posted.

Even though I did not know the more recent names, I could see that she oozed class. Her face alone tells you that she is something special. I am pretty happy to have been able to snatch her up. The only reason she was available to me is due to that injury. I 100% admit to being a lowly non-race person (just a crazy event type :joy:). Providence most assuredly played a role in my acquisition. Which is why I have named her Kizmet (Kizzy for short). :sparkling_heart:

Here is a photo my son sent me on her first day of turnout with us. She is standing over her new “brother.”

We bred to Runhappy his second year at stud and were delighted with the filly we got. She’s correct, pretty, athletic, and has a wonderful temperament and a great work ethic. I would gladly have another. Runhappy tends to get a certain make and shape of horse. They all look very much like him.

This is ours in November of her 2yo year. We had just brought her back from the track to turn out for the winter.

Edited to add another picture. We’ve never tried to jump her but she’s definitely an athlete.

Wow, she could easily be my horse’s twin minus my filly’s bit of white on the hind. Thank you for sharing. It is fantastic to read and see how her pedigree impacts not just performance, but also personality and looks. How big is your mare? At 16.2 Runhappy is a big guy, my mare is 17hh and growing which makes me wonder how big his other get finish.

I’ve never measured her but I think she’s probably right around 16.0. (Her dam is 15.2 and this filly was her first foal which probably limits her size.)
