Do I need chaps for open shows or county fair? And are slinky shirts ok there too? I just really getting to do shows any helps good.
Depends on the show.
Your best bet would be to go WATCH the show first and see what everyone is wearing. If you can’t do that, then at least ask people who have been to that show before and know what people wear.
In my neck of the woods at the local shows, you won’t see anyone wearing chaps. It’s just local and fun.
However, you are certainly never going to be docked for dressing nicely for the event, so if you want to wear chaps, go for it.

No, my son never wore chaps in 4H and was consistently in the top ribbons.
