I picked up a whip at a local shop that came over with a lot from England and is a typical stag horn, briarwood handle with silver ferrule, but has a short, approx. 18 inches, lash on it. Was this for beagle hunts or hunts on foot? I checked a book I have on whips and there is no mention made of this short lash. Any one out there who has some insight on this? Thanks.
I’ve whipped in both foxhunting and beagling and I can’t imagine 18 inches for the thong would be of any use whatsoever. So I’m guessing it’s just someone’s version of decorative, to carry but not to use.
