Help with name for new dog!

I recently adopted a dog. I am a serious agility competitor and also show Boston Terriers and Australian Shepherds. However, I found myself wanting a more serious agility dog as my current dogs are bitches that will need various time off for breeding/conformation etc. And to top it off, my beloved, best agility dog, just had to have knee surgery.
A trainer friend of mine introduced me to her foster dog a little over a month ago…and it was love at first sight. It has been a tough decision but I finally just went for it and adopted her last week. She needs a name, she came with the name Annie but that is the name of my first dog so we can’t have that!

Here is the link to her bio/info:

I am completely at a blank for a name…nothing seems to fit her. She is an INTENSE dog when focused on a task, but a lazy, sweet lap dog in the house.
Here are some we have thought of:

Riot
Pyro
Moxy
Kismet
Crash

Nothing seems to quite “fit.” I want a cool sounding name that is short. I like names that are different.

Any ideas?

Scamp?

I had a Crash-big blk Lab. I named him after the DMB song. I also had a Blaze-blk field trial Lab-quick as a whip.

I like Pyro, Moxy, and Riot.

How about:

Bolt ---- Mercy
Spark ---- Zing
Jazz ---- Boo
Spirit ---- Pinot
Sky ---- Tomboy
Spy ---- Pearl
Madame ---- Birdy (my new Jack pup’s name-fun to play w/)
Mouse ---- Brew (short for Strange Brew)

She’s beautiful! Have lots of fun!

Congrats on the new girl! She looks like she’s going to be a fun one!

Here’s my favorite place to get inspired when I’m trying to come up with new call names: http://www.palado.demon.nl/bcdb/dognames.htm

(I do agility, too - all 4 of my crew have one syllable names - and each has a different vowel sound - not sure that it really matters, but I figure there’s enough difference between “Kid” and “Jam” for example, that they SHOULD know if I’m talking to one of them specifically…)

I also have a little bit of a thing about not giving dogs names that could become self-fulfilling prophecies - so Crash and Riot wouldn’t work for me!

Hope your Boston girl’s recovery is going smoothly, too!

Zap
Zip
Toast
Tap
Dare (I’ve got a 8 yo Jack by that name, it’s worked well for us)
Peach
Pounce

boing zing

bing tack

fly race

fox henna (means red)

ping hash

pop heck

speck jay

jag git

glitz bling

Just remember what Susan Garrett said in her book. Your dog’s name may be how you view her and her destiny. So choose wisely. She looks like she’ll be a lot of fun. I’m thinking Zing or Zip

Well, I was thinking personality wise, she reminded me of Lucille Ball, but there’s too many Lucy’s. Then I thought of Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl and thought of Fannie Brice so Fannie - which will still sound to her like Annie of course - and it is easy to say multiple F’s - “Fan, Fan, Fan, Fan…!”

Believe it or not, we have had a Fannie before! So far I like Zing and Riddle but I’ve also thought of TryIt, Try for short. My red Aussie bitch is named Flea (because she was tiny) and for a fleeting moment I’ve thought of calling this girl “ticket” and Tick for short. Flea and Tick, but that’s awful!!

I like Ticket! (Not sure how I feel about “Tick” as a call name - but then again, I have a Bug, so who am I to judge?)

And have you tried any of your potential names out on her yet? That’s ended up being the deciding factor for at least 2 of my dogs! I also like to say the name in conjunction with the commands I’m likely to use with that dog, just to see if there’s something in the combination that could trip me up!

How about Mojo?

She looks like a Mojo, and you can tell everyone you just found your Mojo.

I like Dare! She is really pretty and you can see the focus that she has. Here are a few more:
Xena
Kite
Guinevere - Gwen for short. A round-about way from merle to Merlin to Guinevere lol!
Danica (fast girl lol!) Dani for short
Amelia (another fast fly girl)
Dizzy
Dazzle
Fancy

Rocket (Rock/Rox)
Flip
Woosh
Windy (what you feel when she runs by )
Molly
Dash
Callie

Ziggy.

I think I like Moxy best = ) Or Roxy (not sure why I’m so into this sound today, haha), for some reason those seem like they’d suit her…

Either way, she’s SUPER cute and sounds like she will be a blast to work with (sounds like you know enough about dogs for her to be lots of fun for you!) - good luck!

MOXY is cute ~

MOXY is cute ~~~~ or Callie

I like Moxy too but unfortunately there are a lot of agility dogs named Moxy, including some that we train with.

Right now I am liking “Paisley”…it seems to fit. Hmmm

I like
Switch

As in switch on/ switch off. Of course some people might think you are calling her something else, but at least dog people are used to one of the possiblities!

There is also
Button
for the same reason!

Actually I quite like Paisley. I may steal it.

Paisley is great! Like on the other thread, the girl named her blue merle smooth collie “Heather” - great name.
