Hi there, long time lurker, first time poster . I am having issues finding the saddles recommended by my saddle fitter in my budget and as I know this forum is incredible for advice, I wanted to see if anyone had any suggested alternatives in other brands. I’m looking for a jump saddle for my wide smaller draft horse who has a short back, wider spine and has to have shoulder relief. I was recommended a Schleese Jeté, UniLight or Merci, but am hoping for an alternative brand that is lower in price (older is fine!) Does anyone have any other suggestions? I also have more specific measurements from the saddle fitter if that would help.
Look into Duett as an economical option. Hoop tree, flatter tree.
BUT, if the shorter back isn’t actually flat, but the rear panels of saddles are starting to interfere with the upward curve of the loin, then you want upswept panels, like Prestige and Black Country
BC comes in hoop trees. Prestige doesn’t, but their upside down U shape can fit some horses who also fit a hoop tree. I had a big WB who wore 39cm Prestige Dressage saddle, and also fit very well in a BC Quantum X (X is the hoop part, there’s also a regular Quantum) in an XXW.
You might also look at Balance saddles. I don’t see used ones very often, and don’t know what your budget is. They’re made by Frank Baines and the couple I had were so lovely.
This is so helpful, thank you!!
There are quite a few older Aisnley’s around on ebay and in consignment stores. They work great on draft crosses and Quarter Horse types. If they are well taken care of they last forever and are at a good price point.
Try Bliss Loxley. I have had great luck finding several used saddles with short panels and wide trees for my ponies. I have two wide hoop trees and a MW hoop tree.
I have a Barnsby Cirrus II that fits the bill… fits super wide with half points and is a quality Walsall leather older saddle. Some around for under 1k. What size seat do you need?
