Help with Tall Boots...wide calf (Anyone heard of Equitector???)

Morning!

I am searching for tall boots and am having a terrible time! My calf is wide and short. It is 16" around and 15.5" tall (from back of my heel to crease of my knee when at a 90 degree angle). I was told you should add 1.5-2" to the height to account for dropping a bit.

Anyway, if i look at wide, regular boots, they are all 18-18.5" tall which cover the entire back of my knee and is extremely uncomfortable. But I have yet to find short, wide boots. I looked into custom boots but the price is a little hard to swallow and a lot of them take 12 weeks to make which doesn’t help me for this upcoming spring season (I currently have nothing to wear!)

Does anyone know of any good brands that do short/wide? I looked into getting boots cut down but paying someone $100-150 to cut down a pair of boots that only cost me $125-$200 to begin with just seems silly.

I also found a brand called Equitector that will do custom boots for $495 and only takes 5-7 weeks. They specialize in short and wide apparently. Anyone heard of them??

Hey! Just curious what size of shoe you have? That makes a difference in the boot search in my experience. If you have a normal or smallish foot the wide calf thing becomes a bigger issue exponentially

I wear an 8.5 normally but in riding boots, I can go up to a 9.5 and still have them fit

I also have a short, wide calf. I got size wide short in the ariat heritage contour boots field boots and they fit great! With that being said, the initial process of breaking them in was a bit difficult … the leather took one or two tries to “stretch out”, but now they fit like a glove

short, medium wide, hopefully they have your foot size (check conversion)

they also come in field boots

I have a short and wide-ish calf, but the Ariat V-Sport fit me in short regular, so you could probably size up in the width. They’re cheap, I think $300, and I’ve been very happy with them. I don’t show, and they do have a texture, but they’re pretty unassuming in the saddle.

Equitector is a long established UK company that makes very good boots. A friend has very short, wide calves and she has a pair that she has used for years, including on military mounted parades. The website has v good instructions for self measurement. Remember to measure BOTH legs as they will not be the same. Made to measure should fit without any pain, even on first use, and will not drop more than about half an inch.

I DO NOT NEED new boots…I DO NOT NEED new boots…

But how refreshing to find so many width choices, book marking them for future use…

I too, found the Ariat V Sport to be a good fit, I have a 16" calf with just about the same height as you. I did put heel lifts into mine, and they are a perfect fit.

I am a size 9 foot, 15.5" around the calf and 15.5" from ground to the back of the knee. I have the Fuller Fillies boots posted above, which I use for schooling. They fit fine, and are of decent quality–the zipper has held up for 3 years (only been regular use for the past year), and the leather is sturdy. Mine don’t shine up all that well, but I also made the mistake of conditioning them instead of polishing them, so that may be my fault. They don’t have the most refined silhouette; they are loose around my ankle, and therefore have sunk a bit more than I’d like. I eventually found a lightly used pair of nicer custom boots ordered by someone who was (almost) my size.

My worry about buying regular-height wide calf boots and cutting them down is the proportion. I don’t know about you, but my calf gets wide lower down than most boots start to widen. If I were to do this, I’d have to have height taken out of the ankle area of the boot to line up with my calf, which seems more difficult (and $$) than just trimming the tops.

I’ve had really good luck with Mountain Horse. I’m 5’2 and have muscular calves and both my winter and show boots are by MH. Granted I just looked at Dover and Smartpak and for some reason they are pretty devoid of MH boots, but I do recommend them.

I have good luck with mountain horse as well but I have a smaller foot so the height is not as much an issue. I got the MH Venezia size 8 wide regular and it says 18.5 height is the height. I measure 15.5 top to bottom as well. I normally wear a 7 to 7.5 but got the 8 to help accommodate my calf. My calf is right at 15.75 ins and that was the end of their given measurement, It was definitely snug for a while until I cheated and did the bathtub method to stretch it. It seems to fit perfectly now and it dropped ALOT after the bathtub method. They are definitely my boot of choice now. As pologirl said, they seem to have almost disappeared on most US retailers sites for some reason. I know you can get them from europe though.

I’ve tried tredstep as well and they fit around my calf from the very beginning, they are shorter in height as well My only issue with them was a huge gap at the top of the boot. I know many do not have that problem but it did not narrow enough at the top to fit properly.
