You obviously don’t have a lot of practical experience with horses if you think they need to be “allowed to freely express themselves” to show they are as peeved as this horse obviously is by its rider. It amazes me (or maybe not) that you refer to a horse that is not expressing its displeasure is a “trained robot” instead of a well trained horse who’s rider is communicating in an understood manner.
The video showed me a very unhappy and resistant horse who was having difficulties with following the aids of his rider. The hand (knuckle) aids on the withers look rather forceful and strong to me, and the horse is expressing discomfort, enough discomfort so it cannot move smoothly while obeying his rider.
Horse can’t freely move? If you watch the last video there is riding from 1:55 - what would you say about how the horse is moving? It is in perfect balance, proud, moving fluently with the rider. This video alone of this horse have 600k+ view and there is not one comment with an opinion simuilar to yours or others in this forum. I am puzzled how do you come to this conclusion?

I am sorry you think like this. I have 15 years of experience with horses and I see your understading as completely wrong and so do millions of Hempfling’s followers and clients.
I’m guessing you started this topic with the assumption that you would get the same awestruck fandom as on his FB page and now you’re thoroughly frustrated that you can’t get anyone here to agree with you.
As to your question of what I would say to his followers?
Nothing.
They are free to believe whatever they wish.
Notice I have NOT tried to convince you that you are wrong to follow him. Just that you’re misguided to try to convert the majority of us on this forum.
Yes.
You have ‘our’ opinion. It isn’t going to change. Go follow your guru. That is certainly your right to do but you are not going to change any minds here.
Susan

I have originally not expecting to discuss the horse skills of the person writing the article I have to admit. So the whole process of evaluation was entirely started by the memebers of this forum - which was however interesting to me in the end of the day. I am surely surprised by what I hear and disagree. Though when it comes in a so far respectrful manner, like from you now I have not the slightest problem with this.
I have probably not been expecting that I would be introducing a new trainer.
In any case Thank you for sharing your opinion.
…the horse is allowed to freely express himself - and is not behaving as trained robot. There is a communication between the horse and the rider and the horse is finally agreeing to follow the path chosen by the rider.
And this is different, how, from the first half-dozen rides on the average 3-year-old?
I have 15 years of experience with horses and I see your understading as completely wrong
Well, I’ll meet your 15 years and raise you another 30. And thus far I’ve seen and read nothing that intrigues me enough to warrant investigating Maestro Hempfling further. It’s all just another helping of Foo Foo Pet the Pony Horsemastership draped in (what was that term I liked?) “dollar store glitter sh*t.”
At least that’s my opinion.

I just took a look at the Facebook page out of curiosity. Yes, there are 1.8 million followers, but the post engagement is nowhere near that. Most posts seem to get somewhere between 100 and 300 reactions (aka “likes”, “loves”, etc.). The current post about this COTH discussion about his “famous” video has only 10 comments.
His followers don’t seem particularly engaged, which seems to indicate that the content is not as awe-inspiring and unique as some claim it to be.

Wow, this guy is still around? I had a barn owner enamored with him back in 2000… him and the ponyboy guy. Thought the whole thing was snake oil dressed up in “mysticism” then. Apparently, it hasn’t changed.
Any system that says you have to be a “master” to do it (As per one of Benv’s comments) is nothing more than an egocentric money grab.
You want to actually learn how to communicate and be around horses? Go watch Tik Maynard’s stuff, or some of JJ Tate’s academy videos, or the RideIQ stuff. You know… people who are actually showing you step by step how to understand a horse…
Not waving some sort of magical “look ma, no hands!” (but don’t peer behind the curtain) BS wand…
I mean, Elisa Wallace actually does everything this guy purports to do, AND she shows how she does it while also competing at the highest levels… just saying…
with which he journeys through the untamed wilderness of Spain, to overcome a daunting obstacle.
Cool. Try the warm up ring at an event or hunter show and get back to me
You keep saying it is promotional and that posting it on the FB prooves it. Are you serious? He is sending people from his 1.8miilion follower page to see this conversation which is to 99% critical in a very questionable tone - don’t you think that this is brave? People would normally to everything to hide this sort of discussion on their account.
Not certain types of people…. We get those here now and then
It will be everyone else’s fault, not the Master’s, when this goes to hell in a handbasket.
Obviously.

I read this in a C3PO voice
So yesterday folks posted some glorious examples of bridle less riding and liberty work way better than what we’ve seen from Hempfling.
@Benv said they were going to go watch them, I had some hopes. They didn’t apparently, just reposted the bumpf from the Hempfling main page.
I was keeping an open mind that the misinterpretations of the videos were due to the OP being a nonrider. But now it turns out they are ventriloquizing or plagiarizing Hempfling right down to syntax.
Either @benv is Hempfling, or else Hempfling has the horse savvy of an untaught adult beginner, or both.
I think this thread is pretty much over for me, but I will scan for explosions or more trainwreck.
Thanks whoever mentioned Nazarov. I had a barn buddy enamored of him. I tried to tell her it was unlikely he actually taught horses to spell Latin words by pointing at letters with their noses. She disagreed. I was trying to remember his name.
How do you perceive this?

OP can you comment on my video?
This was no training. Just me having fun with my horse. She set herself up and everything. It’s actually pretty impressive she knew exactly what to do. This mare is the bossiest least trainable horse on the planet. She knew exactly what I wanted though.
Does this not impress you?
There used to be an archived copy of a Nevzorov bulletin board floating around the internet. It was… an eye opener. Those were some really, really deep rabbit holes. It was probably my first experience with an echo chamber.
He had a scary amount of control over the mindset of some people, for sure.
Also dying you invited ppl to CoTH to discuss.
Got the popcorn on hand.
Given that there are a whopping 8 comments on the post that aren’t “the KFH team”, none of which really address THIS discussion, I fear your popcorn might get stale.
I’m sad you turned off the video before I could go “SWEEEEEEET CAROLINNNNNE!”
