Hello. Just recently have spent several months with two horses that came back from trainer ragged, underfed and mentally shut down. One was OTTB that I bought from local kids camp. Sweet and quiet but needed to be trained for standing tied and to load and basic ground manners. The other was QH that was always slightly nervous but super personality.
After they came back it was three months of haying (on sand lot) and forage based diet and ulcer meds. When weight was back on they looked great, but the TB kept getting cinchy and pulling back when saddled
I started sleuthing for remedies other than Rantidine and Ulcergard.
I found that herbs worked well to let his belly heal. I used the Ulcer Repulser product and within a few days he was eating fantastic (not that he ever picked) but I noticed I could groom vigorously now and his flanks were touchable as well as putting pressure on his girthline. He’d always had a shine but he glows now
he is a unique cribbed. He puts the back of his chin on a gate with rolled edge he doesn’t crib with his teeth. Which really is best way if he’s going to do it
the cribbing seems to have decreased although I suspect he does it from boredom as he’s a weekend warrior trail horse who lives to eat up the miles on the trails!
I also started adding bentonite clay daily which I’d used in the past on a different ulcers horse. The combination of the herbs and clay seemed to have worked!
both horses are extremely well rounded and in good flesh.
has anyone else used herbs for belly pain or other areas for their horse. I’d like to use them for joint and pain relief but not sure yet about which types to use
