Here is Bumpkin aka Pantomime

I have a sad tale to go with that photo of Man A’Live and Joan.
She cleared the 7’ jump only to somehow fall off before crossing the line, and breaking an arm or leg!!
So someone else won the class with, I think a knockdown.

But Judith Spreckles made that photo and Man A’live the “Star of Show” in HORSES magazine!!

Ooooh, great pics - thanks for posting them, Bumpkin!

Wow, that’s some real riding!

With such great pictures, we should start a post just for aged show photos from the 60’s and 70’s!!
Anyone game to start one up???

Here’s one of me on Big Spender at the California State Fair in 1968…

Love these photos!Everyone’s old horsies are so darling. Somehow the unique individuals are missing from the show ring these days.

Merry whips out her old photo album and grabs her collection of June Fallaw pics, circa early 70’s. Oops! Forgot there isn’t a scanner in the house! Merry cries, then remembers she can borrow Daddy’s tomorrow…

Wow! I really enjoy the old pics. I wouldn’t mind starting a new thread for old pics.

I really love everyone’s picture. LaurieB your pony is awesome! I never had an opportunity to show indoors being from CALIF .

Liza and I always seemed to get right to the base of a jump. We never did get our distances right

Now dublin doesn’t feel out of place after her phenominal photos that she posted that were, shall we say – dated???

Great shots!!! Nice pony Bumpkin was!!!

Pssttt–I have some really old B/W of my mom that I could post!!! Actually, they aren’t “bad”, but just old style.

Let me tell you, my mother was a wonderful rider in her day, and did work for the late John Shaffner, but she had a car accident that cut her riding career short. She taught me almost everything I know, and brought along several very promising students…

Once again, nice picts!!!

Don’t get stuck in the sludge if you’re that confident in your ride!

Nice picture, Dublin!

A couple of months ago, there was a thread for old timers who wanted to reminisce (if I knew how to do the link thing, I would.) Lots of old pictures were posted there and it was great fun. Here’s another of mine that I posted back then.

Bumpkin, your mare is fabulous. I can see why you use her name as your screen name even after, er, the passing of several years…

And if LaurieB can repost MSG pics from the 60’s, so will I

Ships Colors II at MSG in 1964 (junior hunters). Too bad it is not in color. My coat and hat were both emerald green – BOY was I stylin’!

Wow, how nice to wake up to even more great pics! LaurieB, I must’ve mistaken the standards for the fence, 'cause it looks at least 5ft! Talk about a hunter course not for the faint of heart

I’ve got to do some picture finding now, but are the late 1970’s vintage enough?

Love your release. Boy, those were the days…3’6" was the norm But i remember the first fence, usually a brush was about 3’. Here’s me on Eliza at Santa Barbara

Man, LaurieB, just how high is that fence?!?

Dublin, your photo album is fabulous! And Dublin the mare was gorgeous, and interesting to boot!

I idolized the likes of y’all as a child. Thanks for sharing your wonderful memories

Everyone’s pictures are just wonderful! It is so cool we can share memories of showing way back when…

OMG, Cactus, that picture taken at Sunwood Farms really brings back memories of my time riding there and the hours I spent in that ring. Here’s a picture of me at their summer show in 1970, winning an open working hunter class on Gaily Go in the outside ring. My Mom is the middle person in the background!

I love all of these old photos! Bumpkin, your mare was fabulous! I’m not very tall and I fit much better on a small horse, so I love to hear about the smaller ones who could play with the big boys!

Everything about BOTH of you is gorgeous!
She is wonderful.Did she ever breed? It would be a shame to have such a talented mare and not pass her fine qualities on.

Wow, Bumpkin and Dublin, what great auto releases! GM would love it

Nice pic Suave Reno, looks like a cute horse. What a HUGE jump LaurieB. Thanks for sharing.

That is great Pam. I know you must have some wonderful photos to post from the past.
And Merry we are anxiously awaiting for Merry and Beezer photos
I posted this one on Hunter/Jumper Forum

Man A’ Live and Joan Kerron

There are far too many of you clever people who have posted old photos - but I would like to thank each and every one of you * you have no idea how much pleasure I get out of seeing your old pics - it really brings back memories - perhaps of a time when showing was more about horsemanship and less about fashion and money. Ahhhh the good old days!

Actually Bumpkin had a foal the year I purchased her.
She was at a TB farm and jumped in with the stallion!!!
She had a habit of jumping any paddock she wanted to on a whim.
From that one night, she had a lovely plain bay, Boogie, my roommate Jacquelyn purchased and he did very well as a hunter. His show name was New Beginnings. I will try and post some awesome photos of him. I think he won some classes up at Spruce Meadows in the days they had hunter classes.
Unfortunately I leased her out just before she passed away and she did produce a half Appaloosa filly that I was never able to locate

I forgot there was a yellow band on that Garden picture. Sorry about that. I probably ought to rescan with my nifty new scanner (yellow band being the cause of the demise of the old scanner.)

MarcyW, the fence was 3’3". Showing hunters in the sixties was not for the faint of heart. Large Ponies usually jumped 3 ft. but at the Garden they made it 3’3", I guess just to see if we were serious.

The way the picture’s taken, you can’t see the actual fence, just the standards and the wings (which all jumps had back then.) Pride was pretty backed off at being indoors–not to mention being in the middle of NYC. Aside from Harrisburg, this was only the second time, she’d been in an indoor ring. I suspect we’re clearing that fence by a lot.

LaurieB, was that the same pony that was owned by Nancy Baroody or her sister? (BTW, terrific picture.) Love the wings on the fence as well!

I remember being so in awe of the East Coast riders when I was showing, and dreaming about showing at the Garden!!
