Here is Bumpkin aka Pantomime

I finally took some of my olde photos of the real “Bumpkin” to my nephew’s house and had him load them onto the computer
Don’t laugh, remember these are 30 years olde!!!

Bumpkin was the most awesome mare anyone could dream to own!! She was only 15.1 and had to jump 3’6" and 3’9" since there was only A/O, Green and Regular classes to enter.

Dublin, yes it’s the same pony. I got Pride when she was a green-broke three, had her until she was eight, then sold her to Nancy Baroody. I had a ball with that pony and kept her until I aged out of juniors.

I was absolutely determined that Pride go to a good rider who would appreciate her which, of course, she did.

Pam, I love the way they used to take the professional pictures at the Garden from outside the ring. I have a couple of those “from the seats, looking down” shots too. Nice picture!

It was great to meet Bumpkin at the LWSC show. The weather was mighty darn perfect until she arrived though

The venue at Bridle Trails State Park is in the background of her second picture. I think the third picture of the Nile show might be at a barn that is located on the park, Central Park Stables. Bumpkin the horse was quite well known in her day.

We had a good time chatting. I had not been to a hunter show since the late 80’s much the same old stuff, some new twists.

We dutifly sat in the rain and chatted. What good Washington state sitizens we are! When the Eq over Fences started we went up and sat with Victor, as I had asked him permission to do so. I was a bit dismayed to look back to where we had been sitting and saw two dry spots on the bleachers. The saddle club is going to build new covered bleachers as soon as the design passes state inspection.

It was such a nice weekend and getting a chance to catch up with old trainers and friends was just the “vacation” I needed before a hard week at work.

I love the chance to meet BB members via The Hat, so everyone keep those caps ready.

Did you ever show her in jumpers? She had so mch natural ability. I love your story about her jumping in with the stallion. Would love to see pics of him

Ok I’ll bite. However dublin, I didn’t start showing until the '80’s so I can’t herald back as far as you…but I’m sure you will recognize the Sunwood photo.

I wonder when they stopped taking from the seats down photos, at MSG?
I have some old Here’s Who In Horses yearbooks, from the 1940’s, and the photos from MSG are that way also.

When Dublin comes up again Hoopoe you will have to join us!!
In fact lets have a luncheon when she comes up again.
And thank you so much for getting permission to go upstairs and sit with Victor!! That truly made my weekend

Bumpkin, the jumps may only have been 3’6 or 3’9, but she’s a foot above the jumps. What a wonderful-looking mare - she looks so responsive and intelligent. And the knees in the first picture - wowser. You don’t look too shabby yourself, BTW.

She sounds like such a cool mare!
I’m glad you had her.

And here is one from my last year of showing H/J before I left the lovely state of Oregon. This was the Rose City Equestrian Fair in Portland in July 1984.

This little guy is 15.1 also. Had more heart than anyone could ask for. His show name was Clownin’,we called him Clownie or just plain Clown. Had a lot of white and legs like a sack of walnuts. Not your good mover, but get him huntin’ and jumpin’ and you could have a big time.

He is pushing up daisies, but not until he was a ripe ol’ 24 or so. I really miss this guy.

As a junior, I love looking at all these, ahem, “old” pictures. Is it just my imagination, or did everone ride better back than? Lots of auto releases and beautiful legs…though there are tons of great horses today, too!

“Throw your heart over the fence and your horse will follow.”

These pictures are awesome!! More More!!

(I love the real brush boxes. I have vowed to stuff mine full of brush as soon as possible)

I am most definitly not laughing! I’m-well, wowing! how wonderful!

“They love me, they love me, they really really love ME!”
-Me ( I wuv you too!)

Bumpkin and SuaveReno, what great pictures! That’s my era, too.

Uh oh, that sound you hear is my scanner warming up…

Clownin is cute!!!
And it looks like you have his tail in a mud braid.
Everyones old photos look wonderful!!

dublin, too bad your horse wasn’t good with his knees!!

And Bumpkin where on earth did you find that picture of Joan? That is a hoot.

One thing that always intrigues me in looking at the “old” MSG pictures and some of your west coast ones, dublin, is how plain the fences were. Nothing more that “sticks” at the real height and standards.

And huntseat-gurl, I don’t know that people rode better, but I do know they were taught to RIDE. And a 3’6" class measured 3’6". Myself I stayed at 3’ - 3’3" Adult amateur thank you.

“The older I get, the better I used to be.”

You two really were a wonderful pair…

Glad you finally got them scanned so everyone could ooh and ahh over the actual bumpkin!!

I remember when the first jump was always a brush jump, just to get you started. This is me on my Large Pony at Harrisburg in 1966.

Yes Clown’s tail was in a mud knot. He had the cutest little buns. And, yah big surprise, it was actually raining that week, so it was appropriate.

Had enough mane for a horse and two small ponies, too. I think I would get about 35 braids down that little guy’s neck. They had to be small or they would look like sausages.
