And I have a picture of it.

And it’s here! Sorry for the picture overload.

The Wellep adjustable stirrup bars

I am jealous! I have been lusting after his saddles for years, it just wasn’t in the budget for a while and now I’m waiting for my baby horse to finish changing shape.

I didn’t know he could do the Wellup stirrup bars!! I wonder if he can do the Wellup adjustable tree?!? If so I am ordering tomorrow…

Possibly. I specially requested the stirrups bars and he had to order them, so it took longer to finish the saddle than what he normally quotes.

Ask him!

My wallet is trembling in the corner now.

Have you had a chance to put it on your horse yet? A friend got two but had them built pretty “generic” as she didn’t have a specific horse to fit to at that time. But I have heard excellent things about his distance fitting.

I didn’t get the saddle for a specific horse, so it also has a more generic fit (but focused more towards the stereotypical TB shape).

I’ve also heard some great things about his long distance fitting. Most of the issues I’ve come across were from people not be specific enough in what they wanted from the saddle (seat - balance, width, twist etc. - and the flap width and length).

I’ve admired Heritage through COTH, but I don’t think I’ve ever really lusted after one. Until the pics of yours! Would you share details of it? Looks like the “Country Show” with buffalo leather, right?

Yup, it’s in the buffalo leather! It’s Matt’s MKII LS (large shoulder) model. The panel is cut straigter to allow more room for the horse’s shoulder.

Here’s the list of things I requested when I ordered:

*Havana brown buffalo leather

*17" flat/shallow and wide seat

*Short tree points

*Narrow twist

*Adjustable stirrup bars

*Green nail head

*White piping

*Cutback pommel <— If you want a cutback pommel that is more like what Passier or Kieffer offer, ask for an exreme cutback pommel.

*Square cantle

*Wool flocked

*Skidrow panels

*No padding on jockey flap

*No padding on back of saddle flap (behind leg)

*Roomy spinal canal

*No stirrup leather keeper

*Front (knee) and back (calf) blocks

~ Velcro for back blocks

*Long billets

The flap is 13" long and 14.25" wide.

It came out to be about $2,200 with shipping (the velcro blocks, buffalo leather, adjustable stirrups added to the cost).

ETA: The flocking feel awesome and the seat feels super comfy (haven’t ridden in it yet). It’ll be a bit of change since I’m used to riding in the harder seated Passiers and Stubbens.

Matt was awesome to work with and put up with a lot of questions from me.

Damn that is reasonable!!

Couple questions: what is the jockey flap? and why no stirrup leather keeper?

It looks yummy!!

Definitely hard to beat the price.

The jockey is the smaller flap that covers the stirrup bars (it’s also called the skirt).

I use the bottom adjust stirrups leathers and so have no need for a keeper. My Ovation Web-A leathers match the saddle perfectly!

Ahh! Awesome! It’s pretty! If only you were closer and I possessed a 17’’ backside, I’d beg a ride

Can you post pictures of the adjustable stirrup bars in their varying positions? I couldn’t tell how the mechanism works and am super fascinated.

TheJenners: Well if you ever find yourself in Wisconsin for whatever reason, you’re welcome to take a look at it! I would suggest staying far away this time of year though.

Rel6: If you pull up the picture I posted earlier, you’ll see a screw right above “Wellep.” All you do is unscrew that, move the sliding piece (where the stirrup leather hangs off of) so that the hole is lined up with the next hole and put the screw back in. I can get pictures up later (possibly tomorrow).

I did try messing around with it a little bit ago. One side slid perfectly and the other side is getting stuck before making all the way to the second hole (there are three adjustments availble on the set I have). I’m going to send Matt an email about it, but I might have to talk to Wellep.

I think the problem is that it’s too tight. If you look at the picture you’ll see the end curves back under and the slider has to fit between the top piece (with the holes) and the bottom piece that curves under.

Ok, I have more pictures of the adjustable stirrup bars.

In the first position. I’ve already loosened the screw.

With screw removed.

In the second position, without the screw.

In the second position, with the screw.

Fabulous photos (especially the stirrup system! thanks)

now we want:
horse + saddle
and
horse + saddle + you

A horse + saddle, won’t be a problem. It wasn’t made to fit a particular horse. The tree is a roomy “trainer’s” medium.

A horse + saddle + me might be a little more difficult as there usually isn’t anyone else around to take pictures!

The flap may be a touch short for when I’m riding with longer stirrups, but should be fine when I shorten them for jumping (which is what I wanted). I did sit in it for a second on the saddle rack.

Not my horse and I forgot to bring a short girth (BO doesn’t have any), but here are some pictures of the saddle on a horse (pretty sure she’s a TB).

Just wanted to gush about how wonderful it was to ride in this saddle tonight. It felt so balanced. My lower leg was the most stable it’s ever been in a jumping saddle!

I rode over at the neighbor’s since she has an indoor and everything is melting here (and then it’s all going to freeze again :frowning: ). The neighbor’s barn manager (hunter/jumper background) was there and I let her try out the saddle too. She was very, very impressed with the saddle and said that “it fits like a glove.”

I’ve been waiting for the post-ride update. I’m still drooling! Many congrats on your new saddle!

SO jealous! That’s exactly the model I want! One day…!

Also, I’m fairly sure he posted a pic on FB and I drooled over it then - love the piping!
