Herm Sprenger bits

Anyone have opinions on whether or not the design (anatomical angle and different metal mouthpieces) of herm sprenger bits is effective? My horse came to me with his old owner using them on him, and while if they’re actually effective, I don’t want to skimp out on them, they are on the pricier size for bits. I don’t have any bits in his size from other brands, so I can’t compare it without buying something. Has anyone had issues with a horse going in a normal it versus a hs brand? Also, does anyone have experience on how the different types of metal compare? (Copper vs Aurigan vs Sensogram mouthpieces?) There’s a pretty significant price difference between some of the different types, which is why I’m curious. Once again, I don’t necessarily want to cheap out on bits if they’ll actually make a difference, but more cost effective is always preferred

In your position I would go to a seller that allows you to rent the Herm Sprenger bit before you buy. I think that Dover does that, and Dressage Extensions as well; I’m sure others do too.

My previous horse far preferred an aurigan KK bit over anything else. Current horse lloves a Sensogan bit. The current horse had been in a nice Stubben bit, but did not seem to like it–it might have been that it was thicker than the HS bit, or it might have been the angle of the central lozenge. So, I think they’re worth the money.

But YMMV (or your horse’s opinion may vary).
