He’s going well! It’s not a miracle worker but he’s been happier in the mouth. He’s a very sensitive soul, in general, though, so I don’t expect anything to make him a contact-accepting wonder. I think it was worth the price.

I tried it today on another of my horses that is green and very fussy. I really can’t believe the difference. Ordering another one tonight.

Can anyone comment on whether they’re USEF legal?

Just curious whether those of you who are using it have the single or double-jointed versions?

My mare likes her KK Ultra Soft, but didn’t like the regular KK Ultra so much. I’m thinking the single-jointed might be the better one for me to try.

I can’t see why they wouldn’t be.

I am using a single jointed snaffle (when the right one gets shipped). Soloudinhere is using my former single jointed snaffle.

Does anyone find these run big? I normally use a 14.5, but maybe because it’s curved, it seems very large.I think a 13.5 might be too small. Not sure what to do!

Let me see if I can explain. These bits are designed to have a wider contact with the horses mouth. As such while the horse is normally carrying the bit it is more comfortable for the horse as the bit has a greater area of space for which to carry the bit. The biggest advantage of this bit is for the palate as it works without putting extra pressure on the palate; many horses object to palate pressure, especially those with a low palate. Essentially it refines the aids allowing the horse to maintain contact and feel very connected at the same time, truly remarkable bits. If you wish to order one please contact me.

hmm… anyone convert from the old HS double-jointed to the new HS single? what do the horses think?

i must admit, i never played around with bits much with my newer guy. tried him in a happy mouth at first and when he destroyed it just put him in an eggbutt double jointed, which received mediocre reviews from him but better accolades than the happy-mouth for sure. count me in as curious for more reviews.

ArabianDressage, what do you have for inventory with the Novocontact? PM if you prefer.

Mine arrived last night! And I am impressed!

My very sensitive, pony mare goes in an HS Duo & Micklem bridle…we have BTV/contact issues.

The Novocontact did not make these all go away (dangitt!) but our ride was much improved.

It felt like after we have had a weekend of lessons with our favorite dressage instructor (and we have not been since last fall).

I am calling Dressage Extensions shortly to let them know this bit will not be returned!

It is definitely worth a try through the rental and if it works as well for you as it did for me it is well worth the price.

Did you go with single or double-jointed?

Heads up to everyone that it looks like Dover is carrying these bits now, and I submitted a new product request to SmartPak. I’m ready to order if I can ever decide whether I want to try the single or double-jointed, and loose ring or eggbutt… decisions, decisions!

ColeyC -I got the single jointed loose ring. I did the Dressage Extensions rental for $15 as my mare is VERY funny about bits.

FWIW Dover has had them and liquidated almost their entire HS line once they got the Novocontacts in… and they still have some of the ā€˜older models’ at a steal of a price… if you can find one in your size.

Now I am tempted to order one

Is the 14mm double jointed bit especially hard to find? I am having trouble finding it. Also, on sizing: my horse is in the HS RS Dynamic. Order same size? For those of you who are using it, did you order same size? (Same question that Roff had, I guess.)

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.

Keysfins, i’ve measured my ultra against the novocontact and it is the same size flat, but a size up when in the shape of the mouth. The curve on it adds a size it seems.I.ve ordered the 135 to be sure.
ps they are 16mm and in width 135 145 etc

Has anyone tried the double jointed on a horse who leans/pulls?

Thanks, Raff. For some reason I thought I saw one in a 14mm, but that must be a different bit.

My local Dover is going to get a 125 and a 135 in the double jointed loose ring model for me to get ā€œhands onā€. I have to measure my RS Dynamic double jointed loose ring that I am using now on one horse, and see what size it is. I may still go with Dressage Extensions in order to test the two sizes, 125 and 135.

Very enthused to try it!
