Hernia belts

Just wondering if there is a place that rents hernia belts or do you have to buy them? I have a yearling that is having surgery and wanted to use a belt to help support since the first surgery did not hold and we are trying again. Thanks for any input!

Google has many hits, try: equine hernia belt

Yeah, I was looking at them but it is over $500 to purchase. Hence the “renting” question. Was just wondering if there was anywhere (ie vet clinics) that had them to rent since one would hopefully only need it for about 30 days or so.

Have they tried doing it this way?

I really worry about infection with that method though wouldn’t rule it out if it was smaller. But it is fairly large hernia and the vet felt it needs to be surgically closed.

My filly’s hernia was 2 fingers wide and we used this method. It worked but it WAS ugly for a while… Just had to keep swat on it due to flies since it was fly season…(of course)

Yes, with a larger one I would think surgery would be way to go.

Good luck.

How about this one? It’s a slightly less expensive alternative.

Boa belly bands are way better IMHO than the first one you posted.

Thanks, I hadn’t seen the Boa ones before! I will definitely look into them more!
