Hey Brown Saddle Lovers

I LOVE brown saddles, especially on a chesnut. Sadly, selling my chesnut…but she outgrew the saddle anyway. I happened upon this one at a local tack shop - a lovely Albion SL in a nice rich brown. It is SO comfortable and just so lovely. I am hoping one day i will have a horse it’ll work for, because right now it just sits in the house.

For the matching bridle I ordered from a company in Australia. Really great exchange rate at the time, even with shipping. Flexible Fit Equestrian, I believe it was.

Here is a lovely bargain brown dressage girth, PDDT: http://www.worldequestrianbrands.com/product-category/outlet/vespucci-outlet/girths-vespucci-outlet/

I use the long version with my brown Stubben Genesis Special (it has short billets). It is super soft and luxurious. Even my sensitive TB likes it.

Seeing all these saddles is really making me wish that my mare wasn’t a wide-extra wide tree. Not many brown saddles in that (at a reasonable price) unless I bought new.

My new brown (oxblood with hunter welting) Black Country Eden is shipping next week!

Drool…I’m obsessed with brown dressage saddles!

I think the first attempt at building my saddle from Custom is sitting on a custom rep’s trailer for sale most likely at some sort of discount - it’s dark brown with cognac, 18" seat Advantage R monoflap, and the tree is more of a medium width - so of course can get adjusted either way from there. It didn’t fit my mare quite right and they made a new one no questions asked… beautiful saddle, and I love my version of it. I’m all about the brown, and dark browns.

The new Jeremy Steinberg N2 saddle is super pretty, too. Those don’t fit me - their trees just felt strange to me and not comfortable, but I know other people who love them.
hahaha i would probably love that saddle!

I know; I got really lucky finding an XW Stubben. I think they are particularly hard to find.

I just bought the Ovation Moorland boots in brown for schooling. I don’t think you could show in them…
Through fourth level you can!

I have a Detente H&C in a deep chocolate brown with gold welt. It’s a cob tree and it’s very wide–marked MW, but in comparison to most trees, it’d qualify as an X-wide. It’s beautiful and you can get them used for around 2k…not super cheap but cheaper than many brands.

Through FEI you can as long as they match your coat, which seriously makes me want brown boots, not that I’m anywhere near the level where I need to worry about being in compliance with FEI dress rules! I did notice one of the German team members (forgot which) at the Olympics did this, she had dark navy patent boots on in the freestyle to match her navy coat.

From FEI Article 427
The following is compulsory at all CDI3*/CDI4*/CDI5*/CDI-W and CDIOs, FEI Championships, Regional and Olympic Games: a black or dark blue tail coat or other dark colours may be worn within in the international HSV colour scale. Colours having a value for “V” smaller than thirty two percent (32%) according to the HSV model may be approved through application to the FEI.

Riding boots: black or same colour as coat

From USEF: DR120 Dress
3. At all test levels, riders may wear jackets in other colors within the international HSV color scale, as described in FEI Dressage Regulations, Art. 427.1. Contrast coloring and piping is allowed. Protective headgear, stocks, ties, gloves and riding boots may be the same color as the coat.

The little subversive streak in me wants to get boots in a deep burgundy or something, just to test it out. I’d be even more tempted if I had a grey, and also a bigger bank account.

Huh, I will have to keep that brand in mind. The Kent and Masters Cob fit her really well, but the balance for me was a bit off.

I was referring more to the fact that the back and outside of them is a panel of elastic.

What’s an HSV color scale?

Hmm, price on the JRD went down…

Re: stirrup leathers…does anyone make brown, long leathers with the flat buckles or curved ones you can’t feel?

I have some 58" Antares leathers for my old black saddle and they are nice but I can’t find them in brown. All the flat ones I use for my jumpers are too short (I am 5’10 with a 36 inch inseam, ridiculous long legs though I tend to ride short so 58 or 60 would be fine).
