HH Azur & Aachen Rolex Grand Prix (Slam?)

UPDATE: Does anyone know how to look at the entries for classes at Aachen? I can’t seem to find that on their website. Would love to figure out what warm-up class Azur is in and watch the replay (sadly I’m west coast so it’s usually too early for me to watch). And then gearing up to watch the Rolex class on July 1st!

Does anyone know what McLain’s schedule for HH Azur is working towards Aachen? I’d love to follow the journey, and am of course excited to watch the Aachen Grand Prix.

I don’t know their plans, but I think for the last one, they just went over with the horse a few days or maybe the week before.

They had a couple of horses in the aisle behind us at Lake Placid last year during Aachen, and then more horses and McLain and Lee showed up for the second week of Lake Placid.

I don’t know how they manage to get all the different horses and people to the right place at the right time. Somebody in that operation must be a logistical genius, I think. They’ve certainly had plenty of practice!

(Edited to correct date)

Based on the score, it looks like he maybe had a rail and a bunch of time faults, so I’m guessing he took his time and just used it as a schooling opportunity to get in the ring.

Watched the round on CMH. Can confirm, he took it very slow and just appeared to use it as a nice warmup. Even did a simple change through the trot at one point! So interesting to get to see some of the schooling that he does for her!

Yesterday during the Nations Cup, there was a rider from the French team who had something I never saw before. It was a strap frm the girth that ran between the horse’s legs and up over the tail and was hooked to the back of the saddle. Anyone have any idea what this was?

I have no clue but could it be something for holding stallion bits in place? This thread has taken an… interesting turn

Not having seen it, that was my first thought! If I remember correctly, Finn Tack makes something like it for Harness Racing horses.

I can’t imagine it’s a new form of crupper, which was my only other thought.

McLain says he’ll choose whether he rides Callas or HH Azur in the Sunday Rolex Grand Prix, on Saturday night.

Ward isn’t certain which mount he’ll choose for Sunday’s feature class, HH Azur or Callas.

“I’m not going to show [Callas] tomorrow. I’m going to keep them both on ice,” he said. “Obviously outside of the Nations Cup, we came here for the grand prix, and you can’t avoid the fact that there’s a little more emphasis on it. Azur’s in a sunset moment, and so we’re just going to quietly get through the next couple of days and keep both horses well prepped and make my decision Saturday night who’s going to go Sunday."

Oh I’m nervous, I want HH Azur - I’m sure he’ll choose the right one but it would be such a wonderful thing if she could win it.

Looks like McLain & Azur are going 33rd tomorrow. Normally there is free streaming from www.rolexgrandslam.com. That is a sweet starting order so the first of many things they need to go right has fallen into place. I hope they are in happy warrior mode. If you can’t be in Lake Placid, Aachen will do!

Yay, I’m excited for this!!

Does anyone happen to know what time the Grand Prix starts? I think we watched it in the late morning last year at Lake Placid, but I don’t recall the exact start time.

CMH’s schedule says 7:35 ET. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m watching on the Rolex livestream. One British commentator, knowledgeable and is fun to listen to his enthusiasm at the end of the rounds.

Horse & Country TV has one male British presenter and Lauren Hough. I found them to be talking the entire time and Lauren spending most of the time telling how many strides between each jump. Not very fun on repeat.

is the Order of go and running scores posted anywhere?

I have the list of starters but not in the order they are riding, and also cannot find live scores

Leaderbard and some interesting stuff In the Rolex web app:

Warning, it’s more live than the livestreams, about 10 seconds ahead, if you don’t want to ruin your viewing experience!

The final line, vertical to the biggest oxer on the course (1.9m wide), has a distance of 22.2m, which Google tells me is 72 ft 10 inches.

It’s riding in a forward 4 or short 5. But has been coming down regularly for those not making the 4 happen.

Devastating :disappointed_relieved:
