Is it possible to use a Hi-Tie on a bumper pull like this Henra Buffalo?
As a Hi-Tie user myself (on a GN), I don’t know why you couldn’t use a Hi-Tie on “a” bumper pull (with trailer attached to tow vehicle for stability), as long as it was tall enough for the Hi-Tie to be well above the horse’s head. However when you tie to a trailer at all, the ideal is to have minimal projections from the trailer that could pose safety issues like a horse getting a foot or lead rope hung up on something. For that reason I really don’t like those three metal uprights on that particular trailer’s side in terms of Hi-Tie use. I also don’t know what that trailer is made of and wonder, if it’s built to be very lightweight would the material hold up to the Hi-Tie being bolted through it if the horse panics and really pulls back or falls down. I’m just not familiar with that brand.
That said, I’m sure someone will now post saying they’ve used a Hi-Tie on that exact trailer for a million years with no problems and I’m an idiot.
You might check out www.easycareinc.com which sells the Hi-Tie. If the answer’s not on their website you could call or email them to ask your question; I’ve found them to be very helpful with info on all their products.
No other opinions? No one on here who uses a Hi-tie on a bumper pull?
I think GotMyPony said it all correctly. I have a Hi-tie on a bumper pull, no problems. The trailer you link to appears to be very lightweight, so find the sturdiest place to attach the Hi-tie too (metal frame of trailer, up high), keep the trailer attached to the truck at all times (it doesn’t hurt to also chock the trailer wheels), and try it. I would also caution as GotMyPony did, on the stabilizer bars (?) or whatever those struts are. If a horse can get their leg through anything, they’ll probably try it. You could block that with a piece of wood cut to shape. Love my Hi-Tie, just swing out and you’re done setting up!
If the roof of your trailer is fiberglass, and it appears to be, there is nothing to attach the Hi Tie. It will rip through the fiberglass. I would learn to use a highline between trees.
