Eek! How hard is it to come up with a video clip of the actual sport of dressage that is represented at the Olympics? I’m guessing some intern googled “horse dancing” instead of “dressage”.
Also, the clip they’ve labeled “canoe slalom” is actually kayak – a different paddle sport.
If you’re going to slag off entire sports, it goes over better with a bit more accuracy and a lot more wit (see Colbert’s Sport of the Summer 2012…)!
Never been comfortable with it being called horse dancing/ballet. Rather call it horse gymnastics since you’re judged on execution of movements.
wow. that was… just, wow.:disgust:
The stupidity of the dressage sequence aside.
I’d love to see the author get thier ass out there and do the steeplechasing. Bet they would end up face first in the water obstacle. Or any of the other sports mentioned honestly. Once again, people criticizing something they don’t understand (and don’t care to learn)
That clip wasn’t even dressage (as it’s seen in the Olympics)!
And “Yup, BMX biking is actually an Olympic sport yuk yuk can you believe it?”
BMX biking is an extreme sport that is both very difficult and dangerous, and takes a lot of fitness to do well…That sounds like Olympic material to me.
Now, Table Tennis as an Olympic game is the one that gets me!
Or competitive ballroom dancing…
Was the whole point of that video to make fun of people? I am confused.
It seems like the type of video that would be put out by a blogger, not a major news station.
I found the contact info for MSN news and I sent them a message about their poor journalism. That really is inexcusable at a professional level. Remember - someone got PAID to produce that, and another someone, or two, got paid to approve it. That’s disgusting to us hard working horse people !
Well done, Pony Grandma. Such silliness, but also not funny or respectful. Just call it Dressage.
Usain Bolt, though - that was hilarious - he’s so cool. A phenom, like Phelps.
Ummm… modern pentathlon?!? Am I the only one who didn’t realize there was another “equestrian” event besides the obvious ones ? I feel dumb and am definitely going to go google it now…
Ignorant bastards. Insulting athletes is no sport either.
Typical hipsterish humor, feeling better about themselves by making fun of things they don’t understand.
Obviously, since they can’t even get a clip of actual dressage.
Did you hear back yet? That’s a pretty ridiculous video.
Embarrassing, I think. It’d be like saying “hey here’s archery!” and showing a javelin-hurling clip instead…

i seem to recall watching the equestrian clips from last time; some of the riding is a little scary.

There are threads on this forum about it.
There’s a place below the video to post feedback.
Go post some.

When I went to the L.A. Olympics in '84 I had tickets for all phases of the 3-day event, and for the equestrian phase of the Modern Pentathlon (which was held at the Coto de Caza in Orange County). It was a lot of fun and the riders showed a WIDE range of abilities. An H/J friend of mine trained one of the horses that was used, and that horse went very nicely for each of his riders (2).
The horses are supposed to be of approximately the same degree of “difficulty,” but one horse - OMG! A poor Nigerian rider got his a$$ handed to him on a flashy chestnut and hit the ground on this very hot and difficult horse, and a Swedish rider who drew the same horse and who was obviously much more skilled, rode a “safety” seat throughout much of the course, which was sort of a “derby” course. Mostly stadium-type jumps, but they threw in a Normandy Bank type obstacle and a water jump.
