I’m currently shopping for a new saddle and am looking for brand suggestions. I’m hoping to get a high quality used saddle for the jumper ring and am quite tall, slim and long legged. Are there any brands that people have liked for that body type? Thank you so much!
I don’t know if they have saddles for long legs, but Wintec is a great brand. I’m short-legged, so I have to roll the stirrups (which sucks), but it fits my brother who’s really tall.
Go to a big show with various high end saddle vendors. Get fitted. Write down the combination. Look for used configuration of your desired saddles.
How tall is “quite tall”? My daughter is about 5’7" and was told be her trainer that she has “long femurs.” She loves her CWD.
Good luck. Finding a used saddle with a forward flap is next to impossible. Start a search nationally. Most all forward flap saddles are custom made. We either hang onto them until we die or have to change saddles when we buy a new horse. I have two sitting in my basement “just in case.”
Oh, and another suggestion is to go up a 1/2 inch in seat size. That also helps.
I have a practically new CWD 17" 2L flap if you’re interested PM me. And no - I’m not selling on this page. Just trying to help another long legged girl.
Any saddle that you can find in a forward/long flap configuration. None are specifically “known” for that as they are almost all custom anyways. I ride in voltaire and have 2L/2AA I think is the configuration for forward and long. I’m only 5’8 but all leg, and mostly hip to knee.
Sit in a few brands of Saddles and see which one you like…then go looking for a used one. If you are truly that long and leggy, you should have some luck finding a used one from the various used Saddle sellers, since super forward flaps are a tad tougher to sell since most people are not that long and leggy. Brands are a personal preference and also see which brand fits your horse the best.
Probably not what most of you ride in but I have an Ainsley Pro National that works well for me. I am 5’7 and my inseam is 32"
here is an old COTH thread about this saddle,

I’m 5’8 and my leg is long from hip to knee. CWD’s C flap worked for me, as it is more forward than the L (long). Keep in mind if the saddle has a deeper seat you could need to go up a 1/2 size.
Wintec is not high quality saddle, though.
Depends on how tall you are. I ride in Prestige X-Perience and I have not sat in a more comfortable saddle, for me. The prestige designer did say that it’s good for long legged people.
For me, having a longer femur requires a flap configuration that’s low, long, and forward rather than high and forward. If the angle of the flap is too high, it pushes me back and I wind up riding behind the motion in a chair seat. It’s definitely worth being measured/fitted by someone who really knows what (s)he’s doing.
My jump saddle is an Amerigo DJ, forward and long flap. As mentioned above, it was originally a custom (not for me - I got lucky and found it used). I’m also long in the femur. A friend was looking a few years ago and needed the same saddle but in a seat size 1/2" larger - it was impossible to find used. I think she ended up with the Amerigo CC, which has a bit more forward flap standard than the DJ.
I’m 5’7" so not that tall, but long femurs. What works for me is a flatter seat, and not cramming into a small saddle. I have a 17.5 Tad Coffin that I adore. The one with the flat seat.
I am really long in the thigh; measuring seated back of seat to knee is 26" and thigh inseam is 21" and find several things to be true in my never ending search for a jump saddle that fits. A forward flap is usually light years above where my knee is, a long flap is helpful, a flat seat is helpful, big blocks get in the way, and a bigger seat size (giving room for all that leg) is so helpful. This is a new Smith Worthington Mystic CC custom fitted to my green, young 4 year old in an 18.5 seat. I also have the Stellar Altair ( much nicer riding overall and leather quality) in an 18.5 long flap custom fitted to another one of my geldings. I think I could have gotten away with an 18 in that particular saddle given the long flap and moveable blocks. The saddles are a great fit for long legs. Here is a picture from today of me in the 18.5 regular flap Mystic on my greenie, and the Stellar Altair (on my insanely wide older gelding) which is really a nice saddle all round! The folks at SW are amazing with saddle fit and customer service.
Thank you everyone for your advice! I’ll definitely keep all of your words of wisdom in mind while shopping
I’m 5’6" with long legs and a freakishly long femur. I think I was a spider in another life. You can’t go wrong with a forward flap Butet. Love mine!
