Highlife Farm Auction

Yes, I was shocked by how high the prices were. The bloodlines are OK but not the top of the top and I found most of the horses to be very average.
I agree with many of the horses, but IMO $5-$8.5k for most of the ponies is fair to good based on what I have seen as a shopper. A couple looked really nice and ready to go.

Some of the horses went for what I expected.

Some of the horses went for way more than I expected.

None went for less then I expected

However, it’s absolutely impossible to judge the value of these horses based off the 1 photo and brief descriptions of them. So I’m thinking some were much nicer in person then they looked in the catalog? And maybe had more training then the catalog implied?

Pairing my impressions of the horses from the catalog with the 1st hand accounts via cothers, I’m overall shocked at many of the sale prices.

Highlife’s Perseus - $18,000
2007 bay Oldenburg stallion
Pilox – Furiana by Landcapitol / Grannus
Though this isn’t necessarily less than I expected (depending on level of training), it is really low in the company of the other stallions.

Anyone have insight into why he went for this? Is he tiny? Or lame?
Highlife’s Alessandra - $30,000
2007 bay Oldenburg mare
Pilox – Amazone by Andiamo / Admiral I

Jeunesse d’Or - $20,000
1998 bay Oldenburg mare
Lavarino – Jonita by Rohdiamant / Weltmeister
This is the dam of approved stallion Diamond Stud (by Diamond Hit)
Any insight into why these 2 sold so high???

Alessandra: IMO $30,000 is a reasonable price for a super nice, well started 5 year old… But it’s $10k more than the next highest mare. It’s also more than 2x the price of her 4 year old 1/2 sister (same sire). Wondering if others think this was a fair price or one of the inflated ones? Maybe she looked superb in person?

Jeunesse d’Or: Granted, she’s a very nice mare, but she’s a 14 year old broodmare, that hasn’t bred in at least 2 years right? And the catalog doesn’t mention any outstanding sport career from her. $20,000 seems extremely high to me.

from where i sat it didnt sound like a lot of folks bidding on each horse…

however, this thread (and others like it elsewhere?) may of added something to the prices since so many folks were vocal about thinking the horses would end up “in a bad place”

sometimes these things tend to feed themselves and folks end up making prices higher for themselves

i wonder where bulgari boy went?

PP how much did he sell for?

Bulgari Boy sold for 16.5K.

We purchase highlifes high society for 10,000. Twisted river your prices are off for what they actually sold for…not sure where u got them from. There is no questions the spoters were running up bids. We sat on bleachers and the old man spoter kept noting bids and no one was bidding. It was bs. After the 6th horse I went to an auction official and advised them I could see what they were doing and it was wrong. It got a tad better and I noted the two I bid on were not pushed up. I made it clear to see each bidder. I’m sorry to say many people got taken with those antics. In addition 751 was the “house” number for der dollar and prezioso and they did not get sold.

I am very pleased with our purchase and many horses looked great in person…some not so much

I watched (listened to) to live auction feed. When each individual “lot” closed, they posted the sold price. That’s where I took all the prices from. Not sure why they would be off unless I had a typo?

Congratulations on your purchase!

Did every horse sell? Some of us were concerned about the 2000 Percheron mare name Silverado’s Lakota.

Twisted Rivers prices are right on what I had. H. Alessandra sold for $30k; I was standing next to buyer. My notes had Jeunnesse D’Or at $21k, but it may have been $20.

The Percheron mare sold for a few thousand; price posted on an earlier thread.

I pretty much agree with this, however I wasn’t there and didn’t see the horses. In fact, I haven’t seen most of them in years, and some I have never seen.

I do know a bit more about some of them than was mentioned in the catalog or during the intro, which affected the value I would have assigned to them, but again, without seeing them in person at the auction, and without having vet records and/or recent repro exam info for the mares, I can’t say that my values are accurate.

Believe me, none of these horses had “more training” than was described in the catalog; short of riding help for that many horses. Highlife Precious Princess was described as “started under saddle” but when she was shown on the preview days, they said she had NOT been backed but was familiar w/ tack and had been lunged.

Alessandra has some wonderful old bloodlines at the front of her pedigree. That may have contributed to her price, and I am assuming she looked 100% sound, presented well at the auction, and thus attracted a buyer who intends to put her in sport.

Jeunesse is an imported mare. IIRC, she was an SPS mare and even competed at Rastede (Oldenburg Elite Mare Show, by invitation only). I believe her sire won his stallion licensing, and maybe also his SPT. Jeunesse’s damsire is Rohdiamant, AND she is dam to an approved stallion (Diamond Stud). If she is breeding sound, she is WELL worth $20K.

Thank you. I see she went for 2500. Whew!

I had Highlife’s High Society (by Der Dollar) noted as selling for $10K. There was another mare named High Society (by Connecticut) who sold for $6K. Other than that confusion, the prices I wrote down for the other horses were the same as what Twisted River posted.

I am not surprised they had someone “bidding up” the horses, but they also were taking online bids on some of them, so you may not have “seen” each bidder.

Not surprised either to hear that the house kept Prezioso and Der Dollar. They are approved stallions, and without doubt the most valuable horses in the entire collection. They probably ran them through the auction just to get some sort of value attached to them and make the auction look “successful” at selling high value horses. I am guessing they already have private offers for those two - will be interesting to see where they end up.

beenthere - I was also there and can confirm the prices that Twisted River has listed as my notes show the same amounts. Congrats on your purchase and thank you for bringing the auction company into line on the bidding. I’m just so glad that the horses all seemed to acheive new homes with the exception of the 2 stallions. Amazone’s new owners were right next to me and were delighted to get her and the mini stallions owners were tickled to see him strut into the ring as the bidding started.

ToNFarm - Fancy Nancy sold for $13,500 buyer 767

Beenthere: WOW I noticed during the evening that there was some “confusion” on the bidding prices - But had no idea what they were doing…Good catch.

Also, interesting re the house #; I find it hard to believe that they wouldn’t take close to $150k for a 16 yr old jumper who’s done nothing for two years +/- in spite of how well he did in the past. Der Dollar, dunno, less of an opinion there.

Oh, I am so glad to hear that Amazone is going to a home where she will be appreciated! I was so worried about that old gal!

Does anyone who was there know who bidder 841 was? They bought a bunch:
Highlife’s Cavalli King
Diamond Rhodes
Je T’aime
Lucena
Pik Pave

And maybe others - I was trying to write down numbers of winning bidders as he called them, but missed some of them.

Hi - more interest was out there on the Connecticut sons. This guy was pretty but did not move as well as the other stalliongs/colts available in my opinion
