Highlife Farm Auction

Uh - Elaine - I said they had done some questionable things with their breeding operation. That is an opinion held by many folks through the years. Just look at how many people on this thread were surprised and puzzled by some of their actions - including breeding as much as they did, not gelding any of their colts, etc.

And you seem to have once again become the self-appointed bully on this forum, who seems to think it is your “job” to take anyone to task that you don’t agree with. Before you start lecturing other folks, maybe you better take a good look at your own “self-esteem” issues.[/QUOTE]

Hmmm? How to respond here? I don’t mean to be policing the entire COTH forum… as a fact, I don’t even look at most of the forums. I am commenting specifically on your comments here in the context of what happened to Norsire (and the $$$ judgment she has against her). I can see where you might feel that I’m policing you, I can see where you are irked, and I concede that you have a right to be irked for being called on the carpet, but possibly you can see where your comments are offensive. As a starting point, just for a moment, take a second look at the comments you’re making about the Highlife Farm people. They are a matter of opinion and clearly some posters to this thread feel differently than you do. Can you see that? You seem to follow a code of conduct that says, ”It’s fine to act as I do, as long as I have a few friends agree with me.” I don’t doubt that they agree with you, my point is that your comments are offensive… and I don’t think you’d want people saying these sorts of things about you. And, btw, seems to me that it was not so long ago you all were singing the praises of the Highlife Farm people, the champagne was flowing, and Der Euro was the future of Oldenburg breeding in this country (even though he was a gelding and many of us never quite got the "he’s the future of… "

Uh, Der Euro was purchased by the Sims ten years ago. In case you haven’t noticed, a lot has changed since then…

And I hardly think you are one to be lecturing folks on their “code of conduct”.

You have a right to your opinion Chris, obviously I don’t agree with you. But, since you bring it up, we’ve often reflected on your approach here over the years and the impact you all have had on Oldenburg breeding in this country. In fact, your name came up at the breed show Friday. Someone asked why there were two Oldenburg registries… and someone started to explain, based upon what they’ve heard from you over the years. Arthur, who usually ignores this sort of thing, had had enough, he pointed out a few facts, e.g., the Court decision from over a decade ago, and a summary from the documents that Rick gave us. The person was stunned to hear the truth about it all. People listening were amazed at how misleading the stories have been. Others, who’ve been there from the beginning had a few things to add. Without question, you guys have left a legacy. There was a strong agreement that your approach over the years helped destroy any unity breeders here might have had. Numbers are down, many breed shows are either gone, or considering the end. But keep at it… it’s what you are determined to do. Just wondering, has it ever occurred to you that you don’t have to be tearing the other guy (other registry) down to build yourself up. I suspect that you know what I’m talking about, even if many newbies don’t. As just one example, what’s the point of going after the Sims on this thread at this time? If they’ve faded away… why not let them do so gracefully. Why make it so ugly? Looking back, at the strength, enthusiasm and wide-spread interest there once was in breeding, don’t you think we’d be so much better off today if we’d all focused on the positive and on getting along?

Blah-blah-blah.

If you had bothered to read this thread, you would have seen that someone else stated the Sims had gelded a newly sold stallion without the buyer’s permission. Since I thought that was a bit - um, over the top - I wanted to try to confirm or dispel the rumor. MBM apparently felt that no one deserved to know the truth, so I didn’t bother to post what I had learned until Damacles’ new owner came on here. And I was glad to see that someone had posted the actual facts of that case, which is what prompted my response, because, no matter how I or you or anyone else feels about the Sims, they didn’t deserve to be accused of such an underhanded act if it wasn’t true.

At any rate - my comments have nothing to do with Oldenburg. Don’t know why you feel compelled to continually dredge up that stuff on nearly every thread.

I am curious if anyone knows anything about what happened to the highlife farms properties? I know they had the dispersal auction in 2012 but the main home and facilities did not sell as well as the attached parcels. They’ve been hanging on the market for quite some time, but are not foreclosed. Just being nosey, but if the properties are not foreclosed, why are they selling them? They are all still owner by the Sims.
