If any are at risk, I would surely donate, maybe a rescue would consider taking in one of the older mares and minis. I think some will have higher bidders as some look like they are very nice with some good breeding.
Would a kill buyer be able to put up $5K deposit? Wasn’t that the amount you had to deposit to bid?
it’s more likely the no sales will go to a lower end auction, that seems like a scary outcome.
You can bid in person with out the deposit, no kill buyer will pay the 5000 to bid online.
I live within 2 hours of HLF
I have heard from many very respectful aquaintainaces that the Sims never cared much for the well being of the horses, only for the money.
I would not expect there to be any plans in place for horses that don’t sell, that would be good for the horses.
I agree that the sale is unlikely to attract out of state kill buyers, but locals are another matter. Any sale that has horses with no reserves will likely garner a look.
And yes, the horses have to go somewhere. That property will be sold Saturday.
Sadly, most likely for development. The auction company is a real estate company. Not an experienced sport horse company. Leftovers will go to the closest livestock auction:(
I can not afford to keep another long term. There are some beauties I would love to bring home.
I am, however, close enough to free up some time to help if any members can organize a way to get all or at least some of those that do not sell Saturday.
Are any of you close enough attending the sale that can speak to the auction company about helping the leftovers?
My email is sobriska@yahoo.com
I can shoot Gloria Gilleland an email and see if she’ll tell me what the plans are for the leftovers. She reiterated to me today that only the bare minimum of health records will be released - owners decision. As stated by another poster - not really good business, explains the current situation a bit, nor in the best interest of the horses. Breeding records seem to be a great mystery when I asked about them - I would not plan on them. FYI - horse that I found to be “light weight” is Magnifique Princess - wonderful old lady who let me check her teeth. One really good float and a few weeks of good chow and I think you’ll see a different mare.
Just heard from Bobby Hogue, manager at the local showgrounds
Clarcona Horseman’s Parkmore info

This facility can rent stalls, if you can get someone to haul horse there & care for them for a few days. if you google this address you’ll see it is about 1 mile from Highlife. They have a young lady that works at the property and several gentlemen and perhaps they could feed/water horses before/after work. No turnout so it would be stall only until relocated but it may be an option for some. They are usually out on the showgrounds so leave a message and they’ll get back to you.
Expedite
The 5k is to expedite the sale not to save the horses from great harm. There is likely a buyer who will take all horses not sold for a prearranged price or who will be on hand at the sale to offer cash for those remaining that they want…they may take all to get a better price. The sale company will have sold all horses. PatO
All we can do is put the word out, in mass, and try to buy those that are unlikely to get good homes.
It kills me to see that super old stud mini Buckshot. Who will buy him? And where will he go? I feel like he is destined for a horrible end that is undeserved at his age. Unfortunately I live in NC and have no way to get down there and won’t be able to be near a computer during the time of the auction.
Can someone that will be attending the auction PM me. I would like to be able to 1) bid on him up to a limited amount if no one else is at the auction. 2) then figure out how to get him here (preferably in the trailer of someone already making a trip this way as funds will be limited for this rescue).
I am happy to provide him a comfortable place for the remainder of his years. Just can’t spend a fortune to make it happen. Anyone down there able to help me figure this out?
Thanks, Laurie
Laurie
Could you agree to contribute to his care if a rescue herein FL would agree to keep him forever?
I would be willing to help with his bail and help with transport to a local rescue if you could pay his upkeep.
Don’t PM
Email sobriska@yahoo.com
I check that often

Poor Bucky was a really neat little stallion. He knew lots of tricks and had once done “mini puissance classes.” I have no room for a stallion (no matter how small or well behaved) but it kills me to see him facing this uncertain end. How much could it really cost to feed him for the rest of his life? Unfortunately the testicles (which would be risky to remove at this point) will keep me from offering him a home.

Laurie - if you are not able to get assistance from Sobriska I’ll be home tomorrow after 6pm and you can contact me at pamisioux2@aol.com - I’ll check here tomorrow too to see if you’re set.
This makes me so sad, but I hope the power of COTH will work some miracles for the ones that won’t find immediate homes.
The owners are reprehensible for withholding records on their horses, to no doubt make more money, what else could be the reason? Shame on them for not giving these horses a safe landing, when they had so much money previously.
I will be happy to donate to any of the horses, give me a pm message as I will not be able to be on the computer the day of the auction either. I can give a # I can be texted on.

This is my sense also, although I have not talked to anyone at the auction company to confirm. However, they will want the horses G-O-N-E ASAP since the property is also being sold in the auction. I would not doubt if the initial plan was to sell the horses off en masse to a single buyer for a set LOW price, and this auction was thrown together in hopes of giving at least some of those horses a chance to avoid the meat truck.
And I agree with Kwill the owners are reprehensible for withholding health/production records, but they rather showed their true colors some years ago, so I am not one bit surprised.
Can someone down there who will attend the auction coordinate with a local rescue to see if they can receive any that can be saved? I will be happy to chip in a few $$$ - esp. for the old mares - even if it is to give them a kind and gentle passing by needle. Unfortunately I am not in a position to purchase any myself (am already supporting two horses, and still paying off hospital/medical bills related to my stroke).
My suggestion is email rescues and make sure they are aware of this auction and that their are people on this thread willing to help out if they have room. Just getting the word out just in case these horses are in danger, and if not at least we were ready to help.
Pam: I can’t actually be there for Laurie to buy the mini. But willing to find a temp situation till Laurie can get him to her. Also will pay towards trailering him from auction to temp home.
Did anyone happen to be able to tell if Defender was still there?
Please also contact us if there are some that end up needing homes and we can help! Do not want to see any go to bad situations.
Is anyone going to be at the auction Saturday? I need to find someone if possible to bid on the stud mini and the mini donkey. If not we are trying to rearrange our schedules to get to a phone…but we will be on the road driving back from a horse show.
Do I need to pay the $5K “deposit” to the auction site even if just planning to bid on those two? Can’t imagine they will cost more than a couple hundred dollars. Have any ideas what those two will sell for? Just trying to figure out how much money to have available to wire if I don’t have to make the $5K deposit.
If we are successful in getting those two I will need to arrange someone to pick them up and temporarily board them until I can drive from NC to FL for pick up (or find someone already headed this way that can fit them in). If not I would be able to drive down and pick them up August 11th-12th so would just need housing until then.
Happy to take help, suggestions from anyone as I’m running out of time trying to get this done!
I believe someone said you don’t have to give the $5K deposit if you are there. I would call the auction company and find out.
Please do follow up on this thread, those attending, so we can help if needed.
