Highlife Farm Auction
I can shoot Gloria Gilleland an email and see if she’ll tell me what the plans are for the leftovers. She reiterated to me today that only the bare minimum of health records will be released - owners decision. As stated by another poster - not really good business, explains the current situation a bit, nor in the best interest of the horses. Breeding records seem to be a great mystery when I asked about them - I would not plan on them. FYI - horse that I found to be “light weight” is Magnifique Princess - wonderful old lady who let me check her teeth. One really good float and a few weeks of good chow and I think you’ll see a different mare.
Just wondering if you have heard anything back from them on contingency plans for ones that don’t sell in the auction. ???

And will someone who is going please keep an eye peeled for representatives from “livestock auctions”? They may be present, and may place lowball bids for the horses that don’t attract other bids. They will probably bid on many of the older mares and the unsound horses, and will load them all into a large stock trailer to cart off to their own auction house.

Does anyone know what happened to Diamond Stud? I thought he was a lovely stallion.

I hope a good breeder picks up some of those really well bred older mares, I’m sure many of them could still have a lovely foal.

The last I heard, Diamond Stud was still in BC at Dreamscape Farm.

If anyone is interested in HL Lucena she is by Lansing who is by Lemgo (for some reason HL keeps putting Larengo on everything), which is the famed Landgraf line. Unfortunately they don’t have records on her dam’s pedigree, a TB mare. How a breeding operation does not have pedigree information on mares they breed…sloppy.

I would love to take Lucena, but I’m full with 5 of my own already. If she’s anything like her dad she’s worth it. He is the most wonderful horse, big personality, loved his work as a jumper (retired now at 23) and an easy keeper. Her uncle, Lasting Impression, has also has a successful show record in jumpers. I’ve seen a brief video of her from this week and she looks great and moves beautifully. Please someone give her a good home.

I’m confused as to which horses People on this thread seem to be concerned for… Is it mostly the minis and donkeys? Which broodies are people worried about? Some of the older mares are high on my radar to purchase, mostly because I like their babies and with shipping costs my budget is more limited than I thought, but still I can’t help but believe all these animals are going to find homes. So… Which horses are on the radar for the highest concern??

I meant, are not going to find homes… Oops

Hmm, I didn’t’ see Diamond Stud on Dreamscape’s website which is why I thought he had moved. Thanks!

There is much concern for the older mares. HL is not providing any repro or breeding records, so it is a crapshoot on whether those mares are still breeding sound.

Some of the horses may not be 100% sound. Again, there are no vet records being provided, and no time to vet any of the horses, so no way to ascertain if a “minor” soundness issue will actually turn out to be a “major” soundness issue.

Some of the horses may not be started under saddle - this is certainly worrisome, esp. for the young stallions.

And yes, there is also concern for the ponies, the minis, and the draft mares. And the donkey.

The horses were never well promoted by HL, so the operation is not on the radar of most folks. And the auction is not well promoted, either, so Lord only knows who will show up, and who will buy what.

That Dionysius horse sure is nice. I am SO glad that I don’t live there. I can not sit on my hands at a horse sale and I already have 2 too many.
Here’s hoping they find excellent homes.

Re the stallion list - I’m pretty darn sure that none have been gelded. There were two of the two yr olds in the barn when I was there - both intact. The GRP Bulgari Boy is quite intact, as is Perseus the 5 yr old. I dont think they were big on gelding…

Just a suggestion.
For those that are going to be attending in person, please arrive early to talk to each other.
You should be able to get a feel of who is there to save horses.
You don’t want to bid against each other.
If you get there early enough to talk to each other, you can probably compile a list on who will bid on which horse.

Was Perseus as nice in person as he looked in the photos? I loved his “Harry Potter” lightningbolt-shaped star!

Perseus captured my heart upon first look. That beautiful heads something I could appreciate seeing every day.
But I just can not take another:(

I just really hope they all find good homes

Well there are some very nice horses for sure, it just takes a bit of research if you are new to bloodlines like I am, to find ones you think you will like. At $2500 minimum to ship to California though I would be taking a pretty big risk- but I would be happy with any of the 8 that I’m eyeballing! As long as I could get them reasonably cheap, otherwise if I’m outbid I’ll just have to keep searching on the west coast

Maybe if some of us that are there in person could not bid against the online bidders?? Lol

no success on getting any additional information from auction co or HLF on the training the horses have had, or on possibly getting additional health records/breeding records upon sale. Auction house, not unexpectedly referred me to HLF and they are not returning calls when I left a message. So sad as these horses all deserved better
Perseus is a gorgeous headed horse, looks a lot like his dam in the head and was a marvelous temperament. Only got to see him in hand but tracks out well. LOTS of colts, only Der Euro and one of the ponies are gelded. 2 year olds may be prospects but would be extraordinary geldings. Good suggestion for those attending to get there early to confer - will be there asap as babysitting in the morning.
