Hills Metabolic cat food for weight loss

Anybody tried it? Took kitty to vet today and found out, well, he’s fat! Vet suggested this food, and I bought a bag, but $45 for 8.5 lbs…yikes!

I know most people hate hills food here, but our clinic did a feline weight loss program using this and all the cats lost weight and 70% of them reached their 6 month goal weight.

I think any food can work, if you can figure out proper amounts to feed wwithout getsing a super cranky cat.

I also think tin food is ideal for weight loss. You feed more bulk but it’s less calories per volume.

I had two fatties who lost their excess adipose by simply…putting them on a quality wet food. No dry…ever. They…and the rest of the pride…are fed twice a day and that is all. All are healthy, have bunny-soft fur coats, and live a good life out here in the wilds of Kansas. I actually have one who is packing an extra pound or so, having been my chronic skinny minnie when we fed wet and dry.

There is a reason so many here on COTH hate Hills/Science Diet. Read the ingredients and tell me there is ANYTHING fit to feed an obligate carnivore, i.e. your cats.

If you must feed them junk, at least feed them canned wet junk. Any of it is far, far superior by virtue of the moisture content to ANYTHING Hills offers.

Just sayin’

I have a fatty. A big British Shorthair couch potato. Getting him to lose weight has been quite an experience. I started with a low calorie dry, tried Fancy Feast classics, then Royal Canin spay/neuter, followed by EVO 95…and finally had success with Weruva. Whew. Each time, food was measured and fed twice a day. I just had to hit on the right nutrition for my specific cat.

Hopefully your cat won’t be so determined to hold on to his chub. Ultimately, it was the grain free, low fat, high protein food that worked. Makes sense, actually!
