Hispar Field boots: Yes No Maybe?

I have REALLY big calves and I really can’t afford customs. I was recently told that Hispar sells a field and a dress boot that would fit my monstrosities that are attached below my knees. I’m excited about this because I have such a hard time finding tall boots for me.

Does anyone have Hispars? If so what do you think of them?

The quality is not very good, and I had to have the zippers replaced during my second show with them- but they have since served their purpose.

Do a search on this forum for the word “Hispar”, which will take you both to the dozen or so horror stories about them and to the excellent alternative brands that might better match your needs.

I’ve been one of those “horror stories”. I bought a pair and received a pair of atrocious boots that are not even remotely shaped like a pair of human legs. I would advise you to save your money and go for another option. If you have a few months to wait, the fuller fillies line is coming out with field boots and dress boots for large calves. I am waiting to hear reviews on them before purchashing, as thanks to Hispar I am very boot worthy.

And might I add that after the failure to get boots to even remotely fit a human leg, the Hispar company refused to refund my money or anything, even though they have a “100% satisfaction guarantee”.

I totally agree with SimplyRed. My daughter needed boots to fit her well defined calves (muscular, large, whatever!) and we cannot afford custom boots right now. The company was more than willing to semi-customize, but when we got the boot (in record time I must add), the height was an INCH shorter than our measurement, and the calf, 1/4" bigger. She can slide her hand down the sides of the boot, and the calf shape - holy smokes it’s huge! The boots are beautiful (Stirling Dress), but still have the tags, cannot be altered by the cobbler we went to, and cannot be worn. I’m out $340 for a pair of boots we thought would be the answer to our needs. Unless you’re cookie cutter size and the measurements they list are exactly your size, I’d say, don’t try customing. I cannot comment on the quality or durability since she hasn’t worn them.

Talk to some riding boot repair shops rather than your local cobbler, these 2 usually get decent reviews on horse forums

Pisano & son

Nushoe

You can also check with your local tack shops, trainers etc for recommendations

I have a pair, because I wanted brown boots for schooling, and they were reasonably priced. I can’t speak to fuller calf fit, because mine are slims, nor to customization. The leather isn’t great, but frankly, isn’t any worse than the cheap Ariat line. This is the first pair of zip boots I’ve had, and I HATE the back zip; it’s held up, it’s just incredibly uncomfortable to me, and it doesn’t stay zipped up. My biggest issue is that the soles have worn almost through and are separating after less than a year of use, and I have one horse who gets ridden 4-5 days a week, so we’re not talking a ton of wear and tear.

That said, the boots have gotten a lot of compliments and broke in reasonably well. I haven’t been wearing them because I’m on the fence about whether it’s worth getting them resoled.

Do not buy from HISPAR, worst mistake

I am actually preparing to try and sue Hispar. The one year warranty is not vaild. The boots fell apart and they claimed it was water (we were in a drought actually and ironically). They were my daughters birthday present and not cheap. Very sad. All I asked for was a replacement. Got a return number and they refuse to send mine back (even though cobbler already told me they were so poorly made he could not fix them). Nor would they replace them. If anyone knows the actual legal name for Hispar that would be great. Thank you. The address does not even appear legit.

I have the opposite problem (slim calf) but have you heard of these? Smartpak sells them and they do returns on sized items. Smartpak is very trustworthy so maybe worth a try?

I know nothing about Hispar but what about Smartpak’s Fuller Fillies line? They appear to be very wide around the calf area judging from the photos and at least Smartpak is reputable and has great customer service.

JPC has two new Boots , The Wellesley and the Regal… They are super soft unconstructed and have a generous stretch pannel, will they last for ever, NO, do they look and feel nice on , yes , they are what I would call glove boots and for the price you could easily get a pair or two a year , They have at least a 1/2 inch variable in the calf, I put a slim on a girl who was at least a real regular if not a full in Ariat and they fit . they are under $300.00

I have the Fuller Fillies and they’re decent for the price and super comfortable. They have a stretch panel that makes them fit very well-my calves are both wide and weird shaped, so even boots with a wide calf don’t always work for me-and I found them very comfortable and they look quite nice on. Mine have held up nicely; I’ve lost a ton of weight and they’re miles too big in the calf now (as in probably two inches too big), but I still use them for schooling because they have the best fit for my wide feet that I have found.
