Hit a hole!!

While hunting on Wednesday last week, I was galloping up to the first flight(I was whipping in) and my horse hit a hole and face planted me causing black eyes etc, but with the ct scan have stable fractures of the spinous processes of C4 and C5, in a neck brace right now and going to neurosurgeon today, anyone have experience with this type of injury?? And length of time out of the saddle?? Thanks!! Ps horse is fine thank goodness!!

Ouch! No experience, but lots of well wishes for a quick recovery!

I believe Denny Emerson had a similar injury a couple years ago. He wore a brace for quite a while, but is back in the saddle (and he’s somewhere around 70). You can email him at denny@tamarackhill.com if you have any specific questions; he’s a really nice man and would probably be willing to share his experiences with you. Here’s hoping you heal completely and quickly (and glad your horse is ok)!

Have you posted in equestrians with disabilities? You may find someone over there that has had a similar exerience.

Jingles for a full and speedy recovery.

Eep! Jingles for a speedy recovery!

6 weeks in a hard neck brace and then rescan and X-ray. Very very thankful could have been much worst

DH just sustained a similar injury 5 weeks ago. I fainted in the ER when they told us!

He jumped up a bank and the horse tripped at the top of the bank. DH somersaulted and was slammed into the ground. Fractured the transverse process of C7 on the right side. He’s been in a rigid collar that extends down the torso.

Initially, couldn’t lift more than 15 pounds and the collar on 24/7. He’s been slowly doing a bit more. Got the ok to remove the collar to shower or if just sitting in the house after about 10 days.

All going well, he should get the collar off and be cleared for all activities in one more week.

Jingles for a speedy recovery and yes, it could have been worse. Glad your horse is ok too!
