Hitch carrier/hauler attachment for garbage cans?

I just bought a farm and it has a VERY long driveway. I will need to get the garbage cans to the road. I have seen these things that mount on the ball hitch of your pickup truck and can drag the cans behind you down your driveway. I have also seen ones that attach into the receiver and will lift and carry the cans.

Does anyone use these and can you recommend a brand? Link?

I leave my cans toward the end of my driveway and use my wheelbarrow or car to tote the bags and recycling to the cans. I feel like I’ve seen an ad for what you’re describing, but where I have no idea.

You can buy them on eBay or amazon. There are tons of them out there. This is the one I am interested in: www.cansporter.com

That’s what small kids are for… they sit on the tailgate of the pickup, tailgate of the Smart car (YES, it has a tailgate!) or we open the back of the minivan and they sit there and hold on to the cans.

We also use the FEL of the tractor. Both of our big cans fit in the bucket and away we go.

Having experienced both types of TRASH location
a. at house / transport container / pulled easily with Kawasaki Mule to curb
And/ or
b. hidden behind bushes next to front gate roll to curb

I personally (though I did not think I would) I prefer the TRASH receptacles at the gate location.

  • TRASH in pickup bed transported to container …on needed basis.

This location makes rolling the containers to the curb very easy
ESPECIALLY when WEATHER EVENTS hinder the long driveway trip.
** and it’s nice not having the containers near the house and barn IMHO

Bag and take it to the end of the driveway / out of sight.

While I never tht I would prefer this TRASH receptacle location
I do !

  • perhaps try ^ before investing in the car transporter.

just my experience … easier for my needs

Whatever is easiest for you is all that matters.

Trash can be a PITA ! Make it easier anyway you can.

If you have or will have a riding mower or lawn tractor, consider getting the large vinyl trash cans with 2 wheels. I have

several and pull them with my little tractor with one hand holding the handle on the can.

We have the large trash cans with wheels. We hook the handle over the 2" ball on our receiver hitch of the truck and drive slowly down our driveway. We do the reverse when it is empty. If we leave it at the end of the road it magically gets filled with trash that we did not put in it.

I think you are talking about something like this?

You could also use those little wagons you can pull around.
Feed stores and places like Lowes and Home Depot have different models of those:

They call them yard carts, garden wagons.

Fancy. I file that task under “yet another reason I would not be without a tractor with a front end loader”

That’s what I did for years on a long driveway. Sometimes it would get bounced off. So I MacGyvered a tight loop of rope on the handle for it to hang on.

“magically gets filled with trash”

Yup, lol. Been guilty of doing that in my cheap younger years. Each week it was one of the roommates job to take our trash with them on their way to work and make deposits. Sometimes before the cans were empty. Sometimes not.

It always surprised me how many people took the time and effort to wheel their can out to the curb with little to trash in it. I guess they felt a need to get their money’s worth. My trash and recycle cans only go to the curb when they are chocker block full.

I have six acres, and a dumpster for manure. A guy down the road will mow and snowplow for me. I don’t need the front end loader, just another thing to maintain. It would, however, be fun to play with.

Our driveway is long and we use this:

a lot cheaper than a tractor with a front end loader

That is exactly what I want! Thank you so much!

I just Magyvered a strap to the handles on the large rolling trash cans and tow them with the Gator. Its partially for the dog’s enjoyment too. Mine loves to accompany me and the gator and the neighbor’s daschund likes to ride. Win for all!
