HiTie vs. Tilt-Tie vs. Spring-Tie - opinions?

Just like the title says!

I’m going to my first ACTHA ride on 3/29, and hauling out to my first overnight ACTHA rides on 4/5 and 4/6. I’d love a high-tie set-up for the overnight one so I need to order something asap.

In looking at their websites, they all look like they are essentially the same thing for the same price. Do any COTH horse-camp gurus have thoughts, comments, opinions, advice on any one of these 3?

Thanks!

I can only speak for my Hi-Tie, but I love it. Horse is content, but has also tested it (spinning around for an hour when his buddy left) and no problems. I do use a cotton rope, not the bungee thing they sell. (And just bought a custom cotton quick adjust tie which looks great but haven’t tried it yet).

I will say there was a horse tied nearby on a spring tie. He was jumping around and it “boinged” all night. It may not have been adjusted right, but it was a little annoying.

Good luck!

Thanks!! I appreciate that feedback. The High-Tie does seem to be the most common set-up I see.

Anyone else? I will probably need to order something by this evening to get it here in time to install.

I have the Tie-Rite installed on my trailer and have used it numerous times camping over the past 5 years or so. I love that it only takes a couple minutes to have my horse set up for the night. I hang a hay bag on the tie ring on the trailer and installed bucket hangers on both sides of the trailer for water. I also put up an electric pen when the grass is good.

A friend of mine used a HiTie for her horse on a long weekend trip. He was very content on it (this was his first time being tied overnight, he is actually a WP show horse). We were really impressed with the HiTie, it is definately sturdy he tested it several times while trying to protect his mares  I don’t have experience with the others you mentioned, but we were pleasantly surprised with the HiTie.

Karen Chaton is a well-traveled endurance competitor and has a comparison page about the various styles of these things - http://enduranceridestuff.com/blog/horse-trailer-ties/

Thanks so much, everyone!
The HiTie seems to be the gold standard, so I’ll get one on order.
Thanks!

Just fyi, I wouldn’t use the bungee tie rope that comes with it. Doesn’t seem like the safest idea. I have seen many people swap them out with a cotton rope.

Thank you!
It’s a fairly small horse and one that has never seriously set back, but I appreciate the advice. I found a cheaper, stouter bungee tie at my local tack shop with a panic snap on the end, so I’ll likely use that. I also have a back-up cotton rope in the trailer. It’s one of those ridiculous “natural horsemanship” ropes that is about 20 feet long–too long for a lead rope, too heavy for a driving line–and I’ve been looking for an excuse to shorten it anyway.
