Does anyone know why (HITS) Thermal is now called HITS Coachella? They didn’t move the show grounds like they did when it changed from Indio to Thermal.
More like a music festival and less like, well, Thermal?
Marketing!
Just like HITS Tahoe wsn’t in Tahoe; it was in Minden which was a bit of a drive to Tahoe. Much closer to Reno than Tahoe, but Tahoe sure sounds a lot better. LOL
The photo of the lake on the “Tahoe” prizelist was the best. I did enjoy that show, minus the 30 min drive over the pass.
HITS Tahoe was such a porta-show. LOL There wasn’t a permanent fixture at the facility. I just remember holes in the hunter rings so deep I think we lost a few horses in there. LOL That, and what a long, horrible drive it was for us from Oklahoma. As I recall, we did it twice then threw in the towel.
And the huge new show center in Tryon is not in Tryon at all. Tryon is in Mill Spring, NC, a half hour away and there are several towns between the show grounds and the city.
But Tryon sounded more legitimate than Mill Spring.
I had wondered if they were trying to connect it to the music festival for marketing purposes, as Peggy & Release Firsf mentioned. Now I wonder why they didn’t do that from the start when they moved from Indio. What happened to the Minden facility? It seems like HITS Tahoe didn’t run for that long.

So I googled Coachella and google told me that somebody suggested renaming the music festival to “AKC National Dog Show” OMG I can’t breathe! :lol: :lol:
The Minden “facility” was, literally, a cow pasture until a week or so before the show. It went back to cow pasture shortly after the show was over each year. There were no permanent structures there. Tents, portable buildings and portable rings made up the showgrounds.
I think the whole renaming of Thermal as Coachella is silly. The show grounds are, in fact, in Thermal as is the Thermal Club, etc. Now when any of the teenage barn kids asks me if I’m going to Coachella I don’t know whether to wear cutoff jeans or a shadbelly. Plus we had just gotten used to not calling it Indio after all this time.
It wasn’t called Coachella from the beginning because Coachella wasn’t such a big thing when the show moved down the road (really, got pushed down the road) from Indio.
But it really is in Thermal, dust pit of the world. Oh joy and rapture - if the Big Horse resolves his abcess in time, I’ll be there fighting the elements 2 weeks from now.
Coachella sounds really silly to me.
I did not realize they had actually changed the name. I thought somebody on Facebook was making a joke about it. :lol:
