HITS Culpeper - is the footing still horrible?

What’s the latest on the footing (specially the jumper schooling & show rings) at HITS Culpeper? Is it still horrendous?

There are so few rated jumper shows close by that I can ship in to, that it would be great if there had been some improvement. But if it is same old, same old, there is no way I will jump my horse on it.

(I think most of us remember Deloise’s open letter from last year… https://deloiseinamerica.com/2017/04/26/an-open-letter-to-tom-stuzzieri/)

Yes I believe the feedback from earlier this year is it’s still garbage.

It’s such a shame- I have friends with a gorgeous farm right outside of Culpeper who have a stall for my horse if I want to show there, but I won’t go back until they fix their footing issues. I can handle lousy, ineffective gate people and sitting around waiting for obnoxious, self-important trainers to decide to send their clients in, but having to Magic Cushion my horse’s feet after one jump round a day is ridiculous.

Actually, I showed there in April. Footing was good in the Grand Prix ring and Jumper 1. The jumper schooling area was a little deep down at the bottom of the ring, and I could see that area being very boggy with rain. But that’s what you get for putting a schooling area in a swamp. Granted, it was dry for that show. My mare has an old injury that causes me to be very conscious of poor footing, my trainer and I felt that the footing was just fine. We are going back both weeks in July.

ETA: I cannot speak for any of the other rings or the other schooling area. I exist in Jumper Land, that’s where I stayed.

That is good to hear, scrbear- I do the jumpers and my experience two years ago was terrible. One of the weeks I was there it kept raining and they were saving the GP ring for the GP, which meant twice as many classes were running in the little jumper ring. The footing was already bad, but that made it worse.

Thank you scrbear! I may have to enter a schooling class, then, and give it a go. I hate to lose momentum by missing showing in July.

I also showed there this past April for the first time in 5 years and was very happy with the main jumper ring the jumps and the schooling area. Also there was plenty of grass for the horses and I’m going back for both the July shows.
