I love seeing young and up coming jockeys succeed and even more so when they’re women.
I have the upmost admiration for the job they have to and the athletic skill they need at times (thinking things like the nose plant coming out of the gate and getting almost bounced out of the saddle and yet regaining their stirrups and seat and being competitive).

The best thing is that several women are doing well now i.e. winning here and in Ireland, and so women race riding is becoming normal. I met a lady who was one of the first women to work as a ‘lad’ in Newmarket, racing HQ, in the late 1960s I think. She had to be three times better than the men and faced so much discrimination, tricks, verbal abuse, being ignored. Such a slight, quiet lady but must have a steel backbone.

Hollie gets her first G1 in the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes (G1) at Ascot by a nose aboard Glen Shiel over Brando.
In winning the QIPCO British Champions Sprint, she also became the first female to win a G1 at QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot!

Hollie Doyle will have her first Breeders Cup ride on Mighty Gurkha in the Juvenile Turf Sprint.
