Holsteiner breeder formerly in FL? Stallion Magical?

I know this is something of a long shot, but I’m curious about my new lease horse and thought someone on this forum might know of his breeder.

Mello is an unpapered five-year-old gelding, who’s supposedly by the Holsteiner/TB stallion Magical. From what I understand, the stallion was registered Holsteiner but couldn’t be approved as his dam was a TB.

Judging by the one blurry photo I can find of him online and photos of his foals, Mello is consistent with the same head, topline, and bay coloring with minimal white that Magical seemed to throw.

Mello is supposedly out of a TB mare, though he really doesn’t look 3/4 TB. He was purchased very inexpensively in 2009 by Jackie S. as a yearling from a breeder in Florida. His owner has lost her name and contact information, as she’s moved to a different state.

His owner says that the breeder used Magical quite frequently.

This is all secondhand information of course, but I thought it might ring a bell with someone. In the end the horse is a gelding and it won’t matter very much once he has a show record, but it would be nice to know!

Never heard of him here in the sunshine state. Found this guy on allbreedpedigree.com and it may be who you’re looking for.

For what it’s worth though, the AHHA used to approve stallions out of TB mares. Lotus T comes to mind as one that is younger than this guy, out of a TB dam and is licensed for breeding.

There are also lots of other registries that a Holsteiner registered stallion could be presented to (RPSI, BWP, Old-NA…)

A Merano stallion son, Magical, has offspring that are proving to be outstanding competitors in the various hunter divisions. One of Magical’s sons, Touch of Magic, was Champion of the 3 and 4 year old hunter divisions at Upperville, VA. Another Magical son, Sam Brown, was the Reserve Champion at the same show and divisions.

While my mare isn’t related to your guy, she was also bred by Carol at Mapleside. She did breed some nice babies

This is a Magical/Galoubet/Dominar xx bred by Carol. He just found his way to the jumper ring this winter.

I’m getting some good leads via PM - thanks all!

tucktaway - Your horse makes that look easy! Thanks for sharing. How old is he?

I’m actually hoping to make an eventer out of Mello. He’s pretty underexposed to the world as his owner is military and hasn’t been on this side of the country in a while. But he has a super brain and on his first outing this week went right through the huge water complex and popped over the BN ditch with no drama after a moment of investigation, so I’m pretty excited.

Magical

Magical stood in Pa. His owner passed away few years ago. As I understand, her husband still has him, but is not standing him.

PM me for person to contact who can give you lots of info on him.

Carol Lush has friends on Coth still. Steve had Magical retired on the farm in PA last I heard. The farm website is probably down as most of the horses and ponies were sold after Carol’s death in July 2009. The horses and ponies carry out her legacy. The people in Ohio who bought her pony stud always give credit in the Chronicle stallion ads to Carol for breeding him. Which is a very nice gesture.

I hope Mello performs well and has a long and happy life with OP.

Scaramouch – He is an '04.
Short version; I sold him as a 4 yr old to a Jr who initially did a little eventing/hunter pacing, etc with him. Her circumstances changed and he did nothing for quite awhile. I took him back last year, now he’s in a new home and learning to be a jumper.

Is he out of U Cloud’s Gala? Looks like one for sure and I seem to recall him on one of Carol’s sales videos.

Carol Lush was one of the best breeders of sporthorses that the US has seen. From what I gather, she had a magical (pun intended) eye for putting sires and dams together on type as well as paper.

He never stood at Silver Lining farm. Carol sent some horses (some by Magical) there to be sold at one point, and and it was a disaster.

Carol Lush also bred River of Dreams, a gelding by Riverman (HOL) out of a Merano mare, who has won 17 Grand Prix jumping events to date…4 or 5 since Jan 1. She was an amazing breeder of jumping horses. Wonder if there is any frozen for Magical available anywhere?

We have a young Magical daughter out of a TB mare that is just lovely. We purchased her to breed to our pony stallions, but have decided to show her a bit first as she is coming along very nicely. We also have a wonderful large pony gelding by Magical out of a Welsh stallion. Both are gorgeous movers with sweet, quiet temperaments. Magical is still alive with Carol’s husband in PA, but is no longer breeding. There is no frozen semen to my knowledge, unfortunately.
