Thanks for posting - lots of interesting pedigrees. Wish I was there

Champion #49. Cosido x Libertino x Tin Rocco stam 3697
Sold for €180,000

Reserve #18. Casall x Clearway x I Love You stam 4847
Sold for €600,000

Premium stallion #s… 1, 2, 4, 55

Thanks for the info! Any idea who bought those two?

I believe the champion was bought by someone from Brazil and the reserve from Germany based on what is available from the Verband website.

I couldn’t stop drooling when I watched the Casall x Clearway x I Love You stallion… it was very interesting to see 6 of his free jump. What a treat to see them all, thanks Nick for posting!

The reserve champion Casall / Clearway never jumped good until his approval day. He was offered to the Verband and they declined due to his lack of jumping until his day. He was absolutely a freak in the chute.

Side note…first time in history a chestnut has been the champion stallion in Holstein. He was a top stallion in every respect.

Hhm, sounds like the Casall/Clearway/ I Love You has a mind that is more Alme than Holsteiner. Hopefully he will be developed by a group who will take their time with him given his breeding and his talent.

Reece, what was the Carrico like?

Gorgeous type , very correct , very good movement , very good jumping.

The Baloubet / Contender was good also. Very good jumping and a very good type outside of his facial markings.

What worries me is that both champion and reserve descend from a stemm with rahter poor history and performance in it. I agree with Remijnse that good stallions most of the times come from good and proven stemms.
So future will show what they will bring as inheritor. The chamipon is placed at the Redefin state stud. Probably he will not cover many mares.

Totally agree with you Harrie. It was the first thing I noticed when I received my catalogue weeks ago. Most of the stallions selected were not from premier motherlines.

Everyone wanted outside blood…they got it , they approved it and then they sold almost everyone of them ! Holstein knows what they are doing.

To inject new blood to the breed , it must be done the right way and it must be done thru top motherlines.

I found that the jumping quality was very good this year, only some of the halfbreds were lacking in jumping ability. The only problem I saw was that many of them were heavier then I would have liked for modern stallions. Almost every stallion was sold, I don’t think the Verband kept any, but I am not sure. Lots of new blood…very interesting.

Two sons of the French Anglo-Arab Hermes d’Authieux are approved.
The Holsteiner Verband is making a wise decision by bringing in new blood, the successes of the KWPN and the BWP are essentially due to a heavy infusion of Holsteiner and SF blood.
The two historic SB’s for Jumpers decided to open their books to new blood, the Holsteiners are doing it very selectively (the German way) and the Selle Français are doing it the opposite way (the French way), I think breeders in both Sb’s will find the way to make those 2 opposite approaches a success!

Andy , you are correct. It is also a point that both Hermes sons were from Carthago mares. This was not by accident.

Here is what was posted on the Verband site about the stallions that are remaining:

Following this year’s licensing, these stallions shall move to a Holsteiner Verband box at Elmshorn:

Lot no.1 Baracuda by Baloubet du Rouet-Contender-Constant

Lot no.19 Casalito by Casall-Landgraf I-Lord
Lot no.45 Cornetino by Cornet Obolensky-C-Indoctro-Landgraf I
Lot no.58 Humphrey by Hermes d’Authieux-Carthago-Landgraf I
Lot no.59 Ivento by Ibisco/TB -Quantum-Contender
Lot no.71 Quiran by Quirado-Coriano-Carthago

Thanks,

You couldn’t tell while at the auction. I just got back and hadn’t checked the website.

Perfectly correct, the French blood mixed with the Capitol I blood (through Carthago), is a winning combination (carefulness + power)
Cor de la Bryere x Capitol I was a very famous mix in Holstein and in France we use successfully the sons of Capitol I on our mares.

I just watched the video of the 2 Hermes and I preferred Henzo over Humphrey that the Verband chose. (I agree that a short video don’t say much)

Here are my favs - although I am sure I am going to get torn apart by the holsteiner peeps but ah well…

  1. Forward
  2. Conraldik
  3. Singulas

The next three are in no particular order just liked them: Calido Blue, Crass and Chacoman

Why would you get torn apart for admiring nice stallions ?

Nothing wrong with Forward , he’s a nice horse. I tried to buy the very nice Conraldik for a client but he went over their budget.

Singulas wasn’t very good though.
