Holsteiner stallion Connor: best crosses?

I’m posting this question for a friend, who has a lovely Corofino mare she plans to breed. She wants to produce an “ammy” temperament for the jumper ring, and needs to add scope, height, and good rideabiloty. The Corofino mare is not hot or difficult but could maybe use a smidge of mellowing. She wouldn’t do well with a stallion known to produce challenging temperaments. The mare is 16.1, a smidge long backed, good legs/feet, very careful to jump. The Corofino is out of a Calando mare. I don’t have the rest of her pedigree on hand, so assume that her owner knows that the following stallions are potential choices for her full pedigree.

The stallions my friend is considering are Connor and Cubito.
Do these stallions seem like good choices for what she hopes to produce (ammy rideability and scope most being important)?

Recommend contacting Bayhawk via PM…

I love the jump seen in his stallion candidate sons (of course only viewed by video by me --but made me melt.)

I have read he can throw coarser- but I would love to use him on a substantial 1/2 tb mare that takes after the WB side phenotype wise --but she is an unknown producer wise -but does bring 50 percent blood to the equation.

I am interested in learning more about Connor as well including the quality of his frozen and if there has been any success with it here?

Try contacting RyTimMick; he had a very nice Connor colt a year or two ago.

I loved the look of the Connors I saw in Holstein. I would love to breed to him but I’ve been told he needs a mare with a good topline so he is not a good match for my mare, unfortunately.

We have to hone down this statement a little finer.

It’s true…he needs a mare with a good topline but not because he makes a bad one…only because he doesn’t improve on them either.

There is a filly that has been in my house since a foal that was just awarded a spot at the elite mare show later this month.

She is Connor / Carlos / Acorado / Landgraf / Lord / Ramiro stamm 776. I bought the Carlos mare as a foal , sold her to a client and then bought this Connor mare back as a foal. He can make them really good.

Yes, fair enough, Bayhawk. My mare has a weak top line and definitely needs improvement there; I understand that Connor would not be the best choice as he likely would not add the improvement in the topline she needs. I did not mean to suggest that he throws weak toplines.

Thanks everyone. I too have seen some “coarser” types but I have seen some really nice ones and I love his canter and jump! It appears that not too many people have used his frozen though so I will just wait a bit to see. It is quite expensive so not sure I want to take the gamble with it…

Yes, good question; how is the quality of his frozen??
