I measured my 2 year old filly on April 23rd, her birthday, of this year and she stood 14.2 hands tall. I measured her tonight and she is 15.3!!! Holy CRAP!!! No wonder she has been so impossible to keep weight on this year! She was so small going into her 2 year old year I thought she was going to be a shrimp, now i’m thinking she may just be a late bloomer. She is butt high right now too 
Maybe she will hit my dream height of 16.3 after all?
i would love to hear other people’s stories of late bloomers who ended up tall!
I’m training a mare now that I waited till she was 5 years old to start. At 2 she was a smidge under 14.0. At 5 she was 15.2 and I think she still might have another inch to grow.
She’s a Morgan/TB/Welsh cross. Very nice mare. Finally this year she didn’t look too growthy to start.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that late bloomers due happen. I have a yearling warmblood filly that is only 14.0h at 18 months old and both the mare/stallion are 17.0h+ but the filly was 3 1/2wks preemie. So I’m really hoping she reaches 16.0h+. So my thoughts are hopes/dreams come true.
Jenbrin, if it makes you feel any better i’m pretty sure your horse is the same size mine was at 18 months. She barely grew during her yearling year…i think she went from 13.3 hands to 14.1-2ish. Then she hit her 2 year old year and skyrocketed and filled out. What month was your horse born in? Mine is an April baby, and by October of her 2 year old year she was 15.2 hands and looked like a fully grown horse. She has grown an inch since then and is butt high again. Isn’t this what warmbloods are known for? Being slow growers? I honestly never expected this much growth this year i’m soooo happy about it haha!

Well, Dutch, I’m hoping mine starts growing again. She was growing almost an inch a month. Then, about 18 months she stopped at 15.1 at the withers and 15.3 at the butt. She’s been hanging there for almost 9 months! She’s sure gotten HUGE in the barrel and tummy, though. I expect she’ll be about 16.2/16.3 someday.
Her full sister is just six months and 13.3. At this rate, the younger one is going to be taller than the older one soon!
My 5 year old was 15.3 hh in March (measured her when she came back from the trainer). She started looking “taller” so measured her again in September when we took her to the BWP inspections, she measured 16.1 hh. AND I think she is still growing !!
My yearling is 16h! :eek: Her parents are 16.1h, so who knows?? And she spent months on chemo drugs, so if anything she should be stunted? But she is tall and gorgeous, has been since the day she was born. Curious.
