Wondering if anyone had a good recipe for fly ointment similar to SWAT. I know it works well but not a fan of the smell ( even though I am sure this is part of the reason it is effective) .

You could try using plain petroleum jelly = Vaseline. Gnats and flies don’t like to land in things that gunk up their feet. It does have a lower melting temperature than Swat, but it is inexpensive!
Bag Balm works well.
I mix vaseline and generic Desitin and slather it on my horse’s sheath and belly with an old spatula.
Generic desiten. Works great but tends to run when hot out (& gets messy). My gelding would get a ton of it in his tail as I used it on his sheath and belly. I’d have to use Dawn detergent to get it out on a regular basis throughout the season.
