Homesteader, Blue Ridge and Adam Trailers

Hi All - i have seen people asking about Homesteaders, but seems to be mostly questions, not a lot of answers. Considering these three brands for a two horse, straight load. The extra size of the Homesteader is appealing, I have one that gets claustrophobic in his current trailer (7’ high, 6’3" wide).

Have seen a nice used Blue Ridge (the make, not the place) and also the Adam trailers - all are within my price range, offer the range of features I am looking for. This trailer is not going to get heavy use - recreational riding and being on hand for emergencies - but I plan to keep it a long time.

I know there is variation in flooring, aluminum vs steel vs combo, but I have done a lot of research into pros and cons of each and am fairly open to different materials as long as overall quality is good.

I know there are a lot of opinions on trailers on this board:) I have looked at better used brands as well - Hawk, Trail-et, etc but they get snatched up fast.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I looked at a lot of trailers and bought a new 2 horse Homesteader Stallion. Absolutely love it. The size sold me-- my TBs have plenty of room and it’s big enough to pull the divider and turn it into the family camping vehicle too. The fit/finish is a bit in the mid range-- but for the savings in comparison to other brands, I live with a crooked screw or two. I got the insulated version, and that’s been a huge help down here in Georgia. Pulls easily with my F150 (mine is the 5.4 V8, max tow, 3.73 rear axle, super crew). Super well ventilated, and I did add fans. The only problem I have is I can’t reach the roof vents without a step. :-). The outside and inside lights are wonderfully bright, tack room is huge, and ramp is solid.

Thanks very much for the feedback. They do seem to offer a lot of features for the price. Good to know about the insulation, I am in VA and summers get hot here too. Thanks!

I have an Adams Trailer that is 12yo and have been happy with it. I have a 2h straight load bumper pull with a “V” nosed dressing room. It is aluminum skin with steel frame and wood floor.

Thank you!

So, in my extensive research on trailers… my mechanic who deals with all of the trailer brands says to stay away from the Homesteaders as he is now seeing frame/structure issues. He said the Adam is ok (it is one I’ve considered) but that it is lesser quality than the Hawk, Trail-et or Equispirit which are all similar class trailer.

Thanks for the input. I have also checked with our trailer mechanic and he has had similar feedback on some brands that didn’t make the list. His take was that Adams have “come a long way” and given that I am not looking for heavy use that may be just fine for me

I have a Blue Ridge that I am very happy with. I bought it a few years ago, but from what I understand they no longer have their own custom line. I heard they had trouble with whoever was building them. Regardless, if you come across a used one it would be worth looking at.

I also looked into Double D before I bought mine. The owner was very nice and knowledgeable, but I was looking for a straight load and at the time they dealt more in slants. That may have changed between now and then. He is actually the one who pointed me in the direction of Blue Ridge and said they were made very well.

ETA that I also seriously considered Equispirit. They were a bit out of my price range for a new one, and I didn’t come across any used ones that were a good fit.

Thank you. I actually have a Double D now and really like it but it’s just not right for this horse. Unfortunately they have gotten pretty pricey or i would do another.
