Homesteader horse trailers? Anyone have one?

I am looking at purchasing a trailer and keep going back to check out a Homesteader stallion 2 horse bumper pull trailer. The problem is I can’t find any reviews on these trailers nor can I find anyone who owns one. If there is anyone who has one that doesn’t mind sharing the pros and cons?

Same problem

I am having the same problem. Were you able to find anything. I love this trailer.

Terri

I have a 2 horse slant load bumper pull homesteader stallion…we really like it and get a lot of comments on it…pretty good size dressing room, back tack, rumber floor, etc. I have it pretty customized with a lot of storage…I bought it new about 4 years ago and it’s stored outside. Remember it is aluminum on a steel frame so there is some rust and it’s a pretty heavy trailer compared to an all aluminum. But the aluminum siding, rumber floor, roof all have worn well. I don’t think I’ve had any major problems except a tire that went bad this year but it could have been a road hazard that I hit.

I like the fact that the trailer has a lot of features that other more expensive trailers either don’t have or it makes them even more expensive. For example it has windows in the dressing room (3 counting door), drop windows in stalls plus bus windows on the other side plus windows in the back doors. I have it set up so I have room for 4 saddle racks – plus a lot of storage – two in the front two in back tack. The interior is completely lined wiht aluminum something you somtimes don’t see in other trailers. The outside and interior lights are excellent including the loading lights and porch lights.

My only complaints would be in some of the fit and finish when I picked it up. Some of the screws are pretty haphazardly put in-- I 've replaced a few. Also, the rubber back bumpers had no reinforcing in them so when the horse stepped in, he would sag the rubber. If they haven’t changed that, you will want to go to a machine shop and have them put a piece of steel in there to support that or it will soon be torn off from the in and out.

I’m confounded why I don’t see more of these trailers either. I think mine is the only one I’ve seen at horse shows. I do get questions about it and even had people put cards on it asking if I would sell (someday maybe).

A friend is considering a Homesteader and asked if I could ask around on COTH, I found this thread and was wondering if anyone else has anything to add, good or bad? Turtle are you still enjoying yours? Thanks guys!

Would really like some more reviews on this trailer as I am HIGHLY considering purchasing one within a few weeks. Thanks!!

FWIW I am very impressed with http://www.eclipsealuminumtrailers.com/straight-loads/st-sr
with the delux upgrade. Very open and airy and very well built

I looked at one before I bought my Merhow. They are made close to me, so a friend was able to hook me up with someone who works there, for the inside scoop. He said they are a decent line built trailer, but to expect fit and finish problems because quality control isn’t the greatest. He had some concerns about the areas where the steel and aluminum come together, and he said something about the oil-covered metal not being cleaned adequately before painting. Hope that helps.

Reviving an old Thread. Has anyone bought one of these? What are your thoughts; good, bad, otherwise?

Just bought one Saturday - 2 horse straight load bumper pull with dressing room.
So far, I love it!!
It is big and light inside.
Ramp is not steep.
2 full sized escape doors.
All of the doors lock.

The only thing I am looking at changing is the location of the license plate - on the curtain door above the ramp and so not visible when those doors are opened.

:encouragement::encouragement: (two thumbs up)

I have a 2 horse slant gooseneck. I’ve had it nearly 2 years now. Overall I love it.

Things I love- big and inviting for the horses, giant dressing room, options for putting saddle racks in dressing room or back, all the lights including a loading light, rumber floors, lots of windows, hay mangers (so much easier than dealing with nets), option to move slant divider to make a box stall if you’re only moving one horse, 4 places to tie horses to the outside of the trailer, fold-down step for ease of climbing into the gooseneck part.

Things I would change- I’d make more windows drop downs, at least the window in the escape door. Love the second stall drop down and wish the first stall was a drop down as well. I want to put more hooks etc in the dressing room, right now it’s a huge space but not hugely efficient because there are only (I think) 4 bridle hooks. I’d like to add more hooks and a couple blanket bars etc. There are 2 blanket bars in the rear tack area but I don’t use that. On a side note the hooks that are in there are so high up that I have to use a step stool to get anything on/off of them (I’m 5’2")

The only things that have gone wrong so far are some of the decorative trim around one of the wheel wells has started to come off, it just needs a little glue. And my horse snapped one of the door props off when she put her head down and the thing got stuck in her halter. There was not a lot of force applied, it just snapped off. Which I guess is better than impaling a horse so…

Anyway overall I love the trailer and the things I would change are easy fixes.

I know this thread is super old, but I thought I might comment as I have the Homesteader Stallion 2 horse slant load bumper pull trailer. Pros: Pulls GREAT! Awesome price for so many options. HUGE tackroom and additional tack storage in horse compartment. CONS (after owning one month): Lock cylinder in rear left door just straight up came out (was just turning to unlock, then took out key and whole lock came out with it). Tackroom leaked in front (from gasket in ceiling vent). Tackroom door just FLEW OPEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY!!! Another girl at my barn has the exact same trailer for a bit longer and has had the exact same problems. Who knows what will pop up with future use. We own an automotive repair shop, so my husband easily fixed the lock. The leak he found after doing a leak test on the roof. The trick to that is that the roof vent has to be closed SUPER tight to engage the gasket (it was apparently only closed when we bought it, but not tightened). No easy fix for the tackroom door except mine came with a deadbolt and he said to make sure to use that from now on. The latch doesn’t does want to connect with consistency by itself. So net-net: it’s got serious glitches. Otherwise this thing is super nice. Here’s to hoping this is the end of it and we get some good use out of it. Pretty disappointing for a brand new trailer though. He’ll be putting it up on the lift next week before I take it out to recheck axles and brakes (want to make sure they didn’t short-change that!) and I’ll update if he finds any issues. Also, the other girl who owns this trailer said she experienced a blow out on one of the tires two weeks ago (again, her trailer is only a couple months old). She said it was because they put tires on that were only rated for 55mph…scary. I’m in the middle of checking out the tires on mine now.

I have a 2013 Homesteader Stallion 2H straight-load BP with Dressing Room. I bought it new in 2013 and have put many, many miles on it with very large horses. I believe it’s holding up quite well. The dealer told me when I bought it to make sure the dressing room door is locked when hauling. I do that every time so haven’t had a problem with it coming open on the road. I think it’s a terrific trailer for the price. And it has a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty. The dealer had told me that it’s okay to drive with the curtain doors open. I think not! I was watching out my side mirror as the wind grabbed the curtain door and ripped the aluminum right off. The dealer repaired it and beefed up the lisas, but I ride with the curtain doors closed these days. Thank goodness for the warranty. It’s the only 2h bp that’s big enough for any heavy draft. I’m about to trade mine in on a 2017 of the very same trailer.
