I hope the scope reveals the issue. Wouldn’t be surprised if she’s got something hung up. Best wishes!!

Good luck!! Hoping all resolves easily.

Okay here’s the update:

This morning I’m told she didn’t come to get her food (weird bc she’s pushy about being first) didn’t eat, and had drool in her feed. She also didn’t drink. She’d try-but water just fell out of her mouth.

We did the scope and the vet said there’s no scarring, but her epiglottis is a very odd shape. A shape he’s never seen before. Also, she has a dorsally displaced epiglottis.

He didn’t seem to believe us about her not eating or drinking. But we did have him put a tube down to give her water. He also prescribed a steroid and for her to come off grain and only have soaked alfalfa pellets. We tried giving her that, with her favorite molasses, and she showed no interest. No interest in drinking either. Everyone is on high alert watching her.

They had the quality of life convo with me today. If she won’t drink or eat, I may have to make a decision. Hopefully it doesn’t get to that point. But we are concerned.

The vet is going to talk to colleagues and call me tomorrow if he has any other ideas.

But it’s weird. She just seems so hopeless. She just stands and stares out. I can’t describe it.

I’m really sorry that you are going through all of this. I hope that Honey recovers. You’ve been through a lot in recent months.

Did the DVM mention any evidence of a possible epiglottal abscess?

No he didn’t mention one

Jingling for your dear Honey. Does she have a temp? How are her vitals?

Any chance she cracked a tooth during the floating? Or dislodged part of a broken one?

Had one horse drooling for a long weekend once --could down soupy beetpulp but wasn’t interested in much else & that was deemed to be most likely due to a branch piece becoming stuck behind the back teeth—gone of course when vet came out…

Yes, I follow the page but it’s horrifying at times.

I’m so sorry to hear about this problem with Honey. Jingling madly for a quick recovery.

Totally possible!

The vet has ruled out rabies?
