I think I’ve come to the decision that Honey needs a new home.

I’m not sure of details yet. But this is just a mismatch and I keep trying to force it and it’s not working.

When she had no job other than to comfort me and gain weight, we were great. But our mismatch happens under saddle. I’m really trying not to beat myself up over this. But I don’t have the bandwidth, money or energy to put into something that drains me and leaves me sad.

Please be kind. I’ll do everything I can to make sure she ends up with a good situation.

Btw no further choke issues.

Totally legit! This is horses, it’s like dating, you only get those forever and ever ones occasionally but so many are meant to move through our lives and then move on when you or they are ready. I have one in the pasture that I really should move on and frankly I’m not being as decisive about it as you are being. You gave her a good upgrade and you learned a lot and got each other through a rocky winter. Excellent time now for a fresh start for both of you.

I kind of think she ate a bee on the choke day…

You have done her a tremendous favor by helping her recover. Don’t feel guilty AT ALL about deciding she is not the right horse for you. Riding should be fun and I’m sure there is a horse out there that will put a smile on your face every day.

It’s incredibly difficult to be introspective and face the fact that you can’t always force things to work. If nothing else, I’m always proud of people when they can say that they tried but it’s time to move on without blaming the horse or the trainer or whatever. That’s a great thing to be able to do!

Hang in there, I think you’ve done Honey a world of good getting her to this point. Now she’s ready for her next home, and you will be able to take a break or have a spot for the next one when the time is right.

Hugs from me and mine, since I know this isn’t the most fun part of your horse life. I look forward to hearing she’s found a new home - maybe some of the ASB people here would be willing to put out some feelers?

Totally understand.

Feel free to post her ad in my FB group - take some good square conformation shots of her, get some lunging and/or riding footage, be super honest in your ad about her suitability and you might find someone wanting to take her on.

Has your trainer done any trail riding with her? An older horse with a (?) for a past might be best suited to a quiet home where they can do fun outings and trails.

Best of luck, and you have nothing to feel guilty or ashamed of.

A bee!? That’s an interesting theory!

Thank you

Thank you for your kindness

Thank you, I’ll definitely post her there.

My trainer hasn’t, but supposedly honey has done trail before. So I’ll see if we can get her to do that.

@AdultEmmy, I am going to quote myself, what I said earlier in this therad.

Horses are supposed to be fun.
You have tried very hard to make this work.
Find Honey a home that both her and her owner will have fun and then you can move on and find a way for you to enjoy horses.

No harsh words from me, horses take too much time and energy to pour it into one that’s not fun for you. We once had a beautiful and well gaited TWH who just wasn’t right for us. Sold him to a gal who adores him.

I applaud your decision to have the courage to know when it isn’t working and act on it.

Of course you will find the best place for her. Nobody doubts your doing what is best for her, You have had her best care at heart the whole journey. It won’t stop now. Good luck.

You are just fine. You have given the mare a whole year of rehab and better health, and it’s ok to decide she’s a better match for someone else. That’s a responsible decision.

Ditto to whoever said that maybe the ASB fans who posted on This thread can offer some ideas about how best to help Honey move to a new home that is a better match for her, and might appreciate her. It sounds like she was a broodmare previously at some point and registered. Do you know if her kids went on to show? That might help with marketing her - if they had good show records.

Thank you

Nothing but respect and compassion from me. You did a good deed by taking her on, getting her well, and now finding her a suitable home. That’s being a great horseman right there.

Best of luck and hope you find your perfect partner

This is an expensive hobby that’s supposed to be fun and enjoyable.
If it’s not, there’s no shame in that. At all.
