Thank you! I love that picture, I just wish I had the foresight to take her blanket off for that one! I agree-- I may need to find more things in that color for her.
LOL I bet she does. I swear she knows that I love to take her picture. So she stops, poses and holds it (usually) until I snap a picture.
A star needs a dressing gown, no need to remove it for the “help” to snap candid shots.
I’m just the help shelling out money for Ms. Thing.
She is really blooming
I just wanted to post here and say Honey is gorgeous! Good on you for seeing such a gem.
Also, for what it’s worth, on the building topline/not riding part, i have another perspective that might help.
Since you are also working on your own fitness, and honey needs to increase hers, why not do it together? What I mean is, instead of longing her, (edited to add:or in addition to longing) go for long walks! In hand walks are great for both of you. They have the added benefit of getting you both used to being out together. While I don’t run, I have a friend who takes her young horse jogging, with breaks to work on groundwork. She doesn’t have a pony horse, and she loves running.
It solves three issues at once: friend gets exercise, horse gets exercise, groundwork is done in all sorts of situations. They have learned how to cross water, go over bridges, deal with obstacles, and scariest of all, concerte blocks.
So maybe think of this as the both of you training together.
Welcome to Saddlebreds. I serve my mistress, and you serve yours.
The Saddlebred is everything. The human is just Ken.
My takeaway from this thread is that ASBs are basically cats in horse suits….
Hahaha anywhere else I’d be a 10
Oh gosh. Spot on!
I’ve been doing this too! We just have some crazy horse flies so it’s hard to find a time we won’t be attacked, lol
Thank you so much!
Right?! I follow this thread with interest and I’ve gleaned two things:
ASBs are fascinating horses with a great fanbase
They are probably, unfortunately, not for me (due to nerves) BUT I love learning about them through this forum and seeing them through the eyes of their advocates. What a wonderful world I get to peek into.
No real updates. It’s hot as heck here. This is from yesterday. Her with some other gal pals in the mare herd.
I was there this afternoon for barn chores and to clean her buckets, make soup, hose her down. I came back tonight just to check in on her water/hay/sweat situation and my husband caught this. Me too honey, me too.
Edited to add she does always go out with a fly mask now. But I washed it so she had a few hours without it yesterday while it dried overnight and I put it on after this pic
“No real updates” is actually good news. We like boring.
How about a progress update?!
top is about a week into owning. Bottom is tonight. I think she’s looking so so good.Hey all!
Looking for some advice. I submitted the paperwork to the Saddlebred Association to get her registration and everything switched over to me.
But she’s also registered with the Pinto association and I need to take care of that as well. I’m a little confused on the membership options. I’d definitely qualify for an amateur and a novice… but is that only for shows associated with PHTA? Is it worth doing the $30 amateur & novice card if I’m not planning to do any showing through PHTA?
Not trying to skirt any rules. Just not entirely sure what to do. Thanks!
If you aren’t planning on showing, just go with a basic membership and save yourself some money. You can always upgrade your membership if you do decide to show.
Ammy status is defined by each, individual club/registry but they are usually pretty close, need to read the specifics. I vote for doing both ASB and Pinto for more options.
I have shown both Pinto and Paint shows, the difference is is Paint (APHA) is for Stock type horses with APHA, AQHA or JC ancestry. Color can be very….minimal. Paint registry is NOT the same as Pinto but people mix them up all the time.
The Pinto registry can be many breeds with visible color and is split into Stock type, Saddle seat type and, cant remember what it was called…Hunt seat type. And Ponies. They offer classes and points in each. It would be a place to show Honey should you desire to. ETA…they gave nicer prizes then most rateds too.
Lord forbid you had to sell her but should disaster strike, the more you can do for a horse with proper recording, training and competition options? The better home they are likely to get. Besides, the Pinto shows were fun and not so pricey. Whole other social group too.
Can I ask the ASB people a question? Is this horse going to be hard to properly fit a saddle to with her back conformation? She has such a huge drop behind the withers. Is this normal for an ASB?
She is looking much better.
