Hoof boot advice

i am ready to buy new hoof boots, been using easy boot back country for my TB since years, they worked well but i am wondering what else might be worth trying.he has thin hoof walls and tends to have seedy toes at times,or " picks up gravel fast" as my farrier used to say.so he mainly needs something that keeps gravel out of the white line and protection for the soles.we’re doing 80% ring work so sand/gravel footing and the occasional trail .he has thrown the easyboots on occasion when feeling like a racehorse and throws in a gallop so boots need a good tight grip on the hooves.any recommendations ? oh by the way ,have tried cavallos and easyboots gloves and epics, not good

I have the Back Country Glove, which may be the newer version of what you have. I’m not positive. I give them rave reviews. I just got back from a week in South Dakota and I’m amazed at the conditions they stayed put in. Water, mud, all types of rock, fairly fast-moving creeks. My mare got bogged down in a creek crossing and when she lunged to get out all I saw was mud and water flying. The boots were fine. My husband also had then on his gelding, no issues. I believe they are the Back Country with the Glove inside, and you order up a half size from the Glove so it doesn’t have to fit quite so precisely.

sounds great ! thanks for sharing :winkgrin:will check them out

If the backcountry has been working, I’d stick with those. Otherwise, if you want a change, get some good hoof measurements and look at the available options: other Easy boots, Renegades, Scoot boots, Cavallo. Different boots fit different hoof shapes.

Another option, since he’s picking up gravel, might be a change of trim/rolling the wall a bit more, or maybe you would learn to touch-up between trims, as that can help keep a tighter line. Or a product like Hoof Armor, which does create an protective coating on the bottom of the hoof. good luck!

been doing a bit of research and now i think i’ll do just that and buy a new set of back country boots - and cloudy 18 ,they actually ARE the bc gloves  — i do some rasping between trims and have had good results with keratex hoof hardener.rolling the wall might be another option, thanks for mentioning this
