I do a little rasping in between farrier trims (with farrier’s blessing) and would like to get a hoof jack, I just don’t know if I should get a medium or geriatric. I have a 14 hand Fjord that is much more comfy with his hinds lower and it hurts my back.
I just don’t want to order one and need the other size. As I usually do 
I bought the medium and have found there are very few horses I am not comfortable using it on (or who are not comfortable with it on the lowest setting), although I only trim my herd (and occasionally a student’s horse).
That said, I don’t know how much lower the geriatric one goes.
Our farrier used one similar to this one, hydraulic, that he can adjust easy to most any horse by pumping it up or letting it down a bit, according to what he is doing or what the horse needs:

The Hoof Jack that I have adjusts down really low, and the cradle attachment can hold a hind foot for you. I am not sure what mine is- it is over 20 years old, but I believe that it was full sized. There was a little one that you could buy at the time, but you couldn’t do a full sized horse with that. I believe that you can adjust them down low enough to work for you- but be sure to get the cradle for hind feet.
I only use my Geriatric model on the truly aged or wee minis.
Every other equine, up to the big Draft-crosses does fine in the regular Hoof Jack.
They make hoof stands for Minis that may work for you.
I decided to do what I probably should have done from the beginning and look up the measurements. lol
Geriatric : Base height - 7.5" , cradle height adjustment 8.5" - 13"
Medium : Base height - 9.5" , cradle height adjustment 11.5" - 17"
It sounds like the medium is what most people use. I may try picking his back foot up and holding a yard stick up to see which one will be the best.
