What brand of hoof nippers would you recommend for someone with small hands who needs to trim small - but very hard - pony hooves? The trimmer is willing to spend money for quality but also really needs functionality. I’ve heard good things about GE nippers - any experience with them?
GE nippers are great. The racetrack nippers have a smaller head, so they would probably be good for smaller pony hooves. Order shorter nippers if you have smaller hands, because you won’t be able to span the distance on the longer handles when they are open.
I also agree with the GE nippers. Sorry, no suggestions on the small hands front! The GE are great though, very sharp and require minimal hand strength.
Nordic Forge Viking brand 12" is what I use and I have very small hands. I love them and find them very easy to use.
Bud Nippers. They make a compound nipper, reg for horses donkeys and ponies, and large for drafts. The compound action makes them easy for small hands and hard hoofs
They are available on Amazon $249.00
The GE 12" nippers run $200 so $50 more for the compound action of the Bud’s
Claw Cutter hoof trimmers are the only other compounded trimmer I know of. They are from Australia and are sold on ebay.
Ditto on Bud Nippers. Plenty of leverage with the spring. Just the right size for Wee hands.
I love my GE nippers, they really are the best and you can tell after using them. I have an OTTB with the hardest hooves I have ever met (I know… OTTB? Hard hooves? But I swear it’s true) and the GE nippers are the only nippers that will cut through them easily and give me a good cut. Nordic forge work well if you aren’t dealing with hard hooves. The GEs are worth the $$
