What hoof oil is best for quarter cracks or hoof health in general??
Oil on a crack isn’t going to do much to it. Getting a farrier out to figure out the best way to manage it is the best course of action. My mare is prone to quarter cracks in one spot on her left hind, and proper shoeing really helps her.
Keratex hoof hardener can help somewhat - I’ve found it useful for helping softer feet hold shoes. When it comes down to it though, good nutrition and proper farrier care are what helps feet, not goop slathered on the outside.
None. Hooves should be hard and dry. Oils, goos, goops, salves, balms etc all create an unhealthy hoof environment. This, in turn, invites every yeast and bacteria within a five-mile radius to chow down at the Hoof Buffet.
Quarter cracks are signs of Imbalance from either an outright improper trim or trims not being done frequently enough to correct the pathology.
I trim my horses and clients every four weeks to the day. This keeps good hooves in shape and gets those in rehab back to balance & health faster.
The best solution to a quarter crack is a farrier who can properly trim and balance the equine hoof.
