Hoof packing question

Magic Cushion is so bloody expensive. Anyone have experience with Finish Line Easypack or Murphy’s Hoof Packing? Do these work as well? Why are they SO much cheaper?

I use Magic Cushion because it’s made of turpentine, Iodine, leather fiber and rosin. It’s more like playdoh than a poultice. It works well, stays where you put it and is easy to remove when it’s dry. It’s contains nothing on the FEI prohibited substance list as well.

Both of the others contain Aluminum Silicate or a hydrous solution thereof. I prefer not to use anything containing aluminum for my own health because it has shown to have long term issues with human health. I don’t even use deodorant containing aluminium anymore.

I discovered magic cushion coming back into horses. I won’t use anything else. I’ve never found it expensive however I’ve never needed it consistently.

depends on why you are packing the hooves really

I use Forshner’s right now rather than Magic Cushion because it’s cheaper and less of pain to use (less sticky). I have a thin-soled horse who lives at a gravel-intensive farm. When I don’t get out there for a few days to pick his feet I’ll pack them so he doesn’t have mud and rocks pressing into his soles. It stays in quite well, and his feet have remained in fine shape this winter despite the non-stop rain. The only drawback is that the pine tar in the packing stinks!

IMO, one gets what they pay for. I have used Magic Cushion off/on for a few years. Iit stays on the hoof and it works.

I use latex gloves to put it on the hooves. If any gets on my skin it comes off easily with rubbing alcohol.
