Starting to have some hand arthritis and I’ve read a lot of threads about reins, general pain management, etc. Haven’t found any info, though, on picking hooves. Any favorite hoof picks or techniques to try to minimize my hand soreness?
I also have arthritic hands.
Get one with the thickest handle you can find. You could add a bit of VetWrap for more grip.
I have a very old one with a wooden handle that works well for me.
I hate the ones with the little brushes attached.
Not arthritis but often freezing cold and gloved hands. Trying to chisel out frozen footing, ice, snow and who knows what else from hooves.
This is my favourite, both for the very sturdy but sharp pick portion, but also for the wide brush which does short work of getting footing out of the foot and crevices. Love.
I bought a few of these for my old hands.

Yes, the Wahl ones are sturdy and easy for old hands.
Oh Yes… the Wahl ones are great.
I ordered the Wahl as it came next day - we’ll see if that helps enough, then can circle back for other options if so! Humbling for something that simple and routine to be so tough!
For anyone else challenged with this - the Wahl brought immediate relief!!! Thank you COTH hivemind!
