Hoof supplement comparison - Nanric?

My farrier recommended Nanric Biotin. It’s $91 for 128 days, though I’m not convinced the 5 lb bucket actually lasts that long. I’ve had her on it for about 6 months and she’s holding shoes a bit better and there’s more growth.

Any strong feelings about this supplement or another comparable one, before I drop more money? Thank you!

Nanric biotin is 100 mg per serving. Research has shown that max absorption is around 20 mg, the rest is just expensive pee.
I bought it once, and cut the dose. Honestly, there are more comprehensive hoof supplements out there. I would look at Nu Hoof Accelerator, it ticks all the boxes for decent levels of the ingredients that go into a healthy hoof.

Love paying for expensive pee in this day and age!! :joy: Thanks for that info. I’ll start by cutting back the Nanric to get to the end of the bucket and check out your suggestion.

My horse was on it for two years (maybe longer?) after being recommended to me by the vet at the equine hospital near me. At the time she was on a different biotin supplement and they were adamant that Nanric was better.

Honestly I didn’t see any difference. I have since put her one something else (about a month or two ago). I’m not convinced biotin does much of anything for them. However I continue to feed it to that horse as she is a very extreme, special case with having two “unexplained” coffin bone infections. For her, it’s a do everything so we can say we really did it all. For a horse that is just having trouble holding shoes, I’d look at the diet overall and the shoeing job and cycle length. It could be as easy as moving from 6 to 5 weeks or tweaking the application.

Zinc and copper also matter for hooves. I’ve used Madbarns Omneity vitamin mineral supplement and it has way more copper zinc and biotin than Farriers Formula

You really need to look at the entire diet.

Horses tend to make plenty of biotin on their own, but the few who don’t do benefit, but at only 20-30mg a day depending on their size so yes, cut that NANRIC supp way down OR just get human capsules which are typically 5000mcgm (5mg)

What exactly do you want the supplement do ? Faster growth? Stronger walls? Got pics of the feet?
